A good percentage of Coptic Orthodox Christians get tattoos on their right wrists. Originally, when Islam became dominant in Egypt, the authorities would brand Christians and make them distinguished by putting Crosses on their wrists to outcast them. Today Christians in Egypt have them done as a part of heritage and distinguishing themselves as Christians.
What's the Orthodox stance on them? I have just heard from somebody, that if one has a tattoo, the Orthodox Church will not bury them. Could I get some feedback on this? Thanks
P.S. I do not have any piercings or tattoos, nor do I plan on any.
im not sure about the orthodox church, but i do know that the cathoilc church has no objection to tattoos as long as they are not dirty. i was looking into a religious life (priest) and wanted a tattoo, so i asked the people at the local school and they said that there is no problen with them in moderation

In that case, I'm getting one. I want a rosary on my back left shoulder and a Razorback on my upper left arm. Sweet.

If the Confederate Battle Flag offends you, you are in need of a history lesson. Heritage Not Hate.
I do not think that there is anything wrong with chrisitians getting tattoos. I have John 13:10(look it up) on my foot and I have had many witness oppertunities because of it.
I've never really given any thought to getting a tattoo. I wanted an earing when I was younger, but now that they are out of fashion on guys, I guess that idea has gone...
If I did ever get a tattoo, I'd probably get something religious put on it, such as a verse, or a religious icon, but if not religious, I'd like a picture of Hulk Hogan tattooed onto my shoulder.

Shows how difficult it would be to separate us from the love of the Lord.
And we know that where we judge on the outward things of man, God judges the heart which no man see's.
So considering these things, do you think that a piercing that can be removed
and healed or a bit of ink placed with within a fraction of an inch of skin...which can also now be removed could separate us from the love of God?
I have known many professed high brow pious type Christians who were the most hateful, judgemental people and I have known tattooed biker type Christian people who feed the hungry, deliver teddy bears to pediatric units, etc and would give you the clothing from thier backs if you needed it.
Which of these is the true Christian....the ones who profess with the mouth but deny in deeds or the one who prefess christ with thier life?
I don't know if you could be buried in that church or not but I do think that many churches miss the heart of God....they won't bury due to a tattoo while God sacrificed His own Son for us whose sins far outweigh a bit of ink.
I used to think I wanted a tattoo. But now I think my conscience would not allow it. Tattoos are expensive. Why would I spend money to mark this mortal body, that will melt into a smelly heap after I depart from this life?

That's so funny you mentioned the bikers. My friends and I were just discussing this. There are a bunch of bikers nearby who do the exact same thing. They are super scary looking on the outside and some of them have miny teddy bears on their bikes (along with all the leather etc)
Many of them do things to help others that some Christians would never consider.
Appearance is always deceiving (at least in my experience)
