What was wrong with Thelema, sidhe? You were so enthusiastic about it not so long ago ...

Hi..I'm Mrs.Sidhe (or Erica)

I'm married to---SIDHE!

I have one son (who passed away 5 1/2 year ago) and 1 daughter who is now 5 months old.

We have 1 Maine Coon cat and we live in an apartment now near Augusta, GA.

I am a stay-at-home mom but I plan to go back to college once my daughter is in school.

I love music, writing, cooking, trying to be a film buff, discussing religion, philosophy and politics

Right now I'm kinda of going through a very long process of finding myself spiritually...so I'll go into that one day

that is all...I think...

До свидания! (or Do svidaniya!) That's goodbye in Russian.

Eh, it's hard to explain without going into Thelemic philosophy, but I believe that self-sacrificing love is a virtue and not a weakness, and I personally don't see room for that belief in Thelema, which emphasizes a different sort of love.

My whole-hearted love for St. Francis of Assisi didn't help either. I find more in common with a prayer of "God, make me an instrument of your peace" than with anything in Thelema. I'm too much the romantic for the scientific methods of Thelema.

Not that there's anything wrong with Thelema, it's just not for me. I'm currently torn between paganism and a rather Franciscan Christianity. I could really go either way.

I also have horrific insomnia and can't find my sleeping pills, so I may be up for a while.

I have a deep admiration for St Francis of Assisi too.
I mean, his prayer is truly worthy to live by:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where this is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled
as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

So, what's bugging you so much about Christianity? There are clearly some elements in it you hold to dearly ...

Peace
glo

Christianity doesn't bug me as much as some Christians bug me. There's a fair number of Christians who take their religion as an excuse to be judgmental and elitist.

On the other hand, there're folks like you, and Snowbunny, and my Episcopal friends. So, hey, ya never know.

Peace,
Sidhe

You are not kidding!
Do you think I don't feel the same sometimes?
Do you think I do not find urges to judge others and feel self-righteous in myself sometimes? Of course I do! Those are human qualities ...

As Mahatma Ghandi said:
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

But with God's grace I know to be forgiven for my weaknesses and flaws, and with the leading of his Spirit and with the examples Jesus set to us I am encouraged to continue to follow Jesus' teachings and his example.

On the other hand, there're folks like you, and Snowbunny, and my Episcopal friends. So, hey, ya never know.
There is hope for us all then!

Peace, sidhe

hola

i think christianity is three things... love and adoration of the triune God of Abraham, leading a Christ like life and being part of a community of fellow believers.

for many many people one or two of these things might come easier than all three together... and even then it is to varying degrees... like Mohandes Ghandi i think is a good example of a man that felt more comfortable leading a Christ like life than he felt comfortable being part of the community of believers, and to a degree loving and adoring the triune God of Abraham...

other people face different challenges... some people find it easier to love and worship the triune God, lead a Christ like life, but do not fully desire or understand the necessity to be a member of the community of believers...

the people i feel sorry for the most are the ones who find it easier to love and adore the triune God of Abraham, and be a member of the community of believers... but for whom leading a Christ like life is far more challenging than to others.

think about how torturous it must be to love somebody, know what they expect from you... see the people around you fulfilling those expectations... but knowing that you consistently fail to meet them yourself... that is why i think so many of the unChrist like christians in the world are such bitter, confused and austere people.

their patron Saint is the rich man... the one who approached Jesus in Galilee (i think?) and said he loved God, followed all the commandments and wanted to know what to do next. Jesus told him to give away all his posessions and join Him... the bible says the man walked away very sad because he had a lot of wealth.

i think they are among the people we should spend more time embracing and trying to help... instead of avoiding them and allow them to wade through their confusion and guilt alone.

in a perfect world we would experience the harmony of these three things working together. we would love a God who was not a mystery to us... because we would know exactly who He is, we would lead lives that he made us to lead, feeling better about ourselves and the state of our world because we are leading Christ like lives and knowing that the God who is close to us is pleased by what we are doing, and we would be part of a community, supportive and together, so that we are all serving God together instead of in private or clandestine ways.

that will be what heaven is like, except for all of eternity but you can try to have some of it now... by striving for the love and adoration of *the* God, striving to lead a Christ like life, and striving to be a part of the community of believers.

it ALL takes work and sacrifice... sometimes the community of believers is in a sad way... that is your opportunity to make it what it was intended to be. sometimes the steps needed to lead a more Christ like life are more difficult than you were prepared for, and will require sacrifices you didn't know you would need to make... make them, sometimes out of uncertainty or the desire to please other people who you respect you do not want to believe that God is as He has revealed Himself, or you do not want to love and adore Him for fear of judgment from others or similar reasons... again this is a sacrifice.

these challenges can be seen as blocks in our path or as opportunities to learn, overcome and grow

Surah 3. The Family Of 'Imran, The House Of 'Imran
55. Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.

The lovers of Jesus and his followers will be superior to the ones who rejected faith among People of the Book

I ask Allah to accept you as the ones who belong to this group which is superior to the unfaithful group.

And look at the words of Allah when He said that all of you will return to Him and He will judge between you with Jesus (PBUH) to see who was right and who was mistaken about the things you weren't sure about in the Holy Book.And He didn't say that He will punish you because it is not your fault but He commanded you to be faithful.
How Merciful Allah is.
