jhessel: you do know that humans grow tails, but the tail is then told to die, during the embryonic growth don't you? all the tail is, is a mistake in the gene that codes for the preprogrammed cell death of the tail cells.

do you have any interesting theory on how endogenous retroviral sequeces might have been introduced into the gene pool, and why these line up so nicely with the phylogenetic tree?

how about telling us all about the appendix?

how about the extensor coccygis muscle? the one that extends out coccyx... with the one minor problem being that the human coccyx is a fused lump.

I find it ironic that the baby was born into a muslim family and is being worshiped by hindus. the hindus seem to believe the baby is the re-incarnation of a hindu god.
Whether this is just a genetic mutation or not, I find the whole theory about intermarriage with angels/demons to be fasinating and has value in it's own right aside from this news story.
It does seem to have religious implications from the perspective of many hindus.

There are some outlandish things written about in jewish extra-biblical writings. Giants much much taller than 8 feet for example. I am not familiar with any about lizards. Perhaps start a thread in the messianic jewish forum and ask about jewish extra biblical sources for giants and other jewish legends. There are some stories in jewish extra biblical sources which I have read which are very hard to believe. You may find it interesting to add it to your collection of legends from other cultures.

Sure i would like to read them (maybe you can pm me the links or post them in this thread). The study of giants give us an idea of the religion (hindus have many of the so called "gods" and so does paganism and this 2 worship those beings) but then i am reminded of the dark tales of the giants and the legends of how they ate human flesh etc (they were no bfg's that is known)

I will give you one example which I am aware of from jewish sources . In connection with Sarahs death recorded in Genesis chapter 23. The legend says that the reason Sarah died is as follows.

Satan, frustrated because he failed to achieve victory over Abraham or Yitzchak (Isaac) , appeared to Sara.
"where is Yitzchak?" he asked her.
" he left with his father to study the law of sacrifices" answered Sara.
"that is not true; Yitzchak himself is the sacrifice!' Satan contradicted.
" I don't believe you!" exclaimed Sara.
Even though Sara did not believe Satan, she was somewhat effected by his words. She therefore left her house and hurried to the abode of Achiman, Shaishai, and Talmai, three giants who lived in Chevron, requesting, "Please look into the distance as far as you can see. do you notice anywhere an old man accompanied by his son and two servants?"
The giants rose to their full height and gazed as far as they could see. "Yes" they answered, "we see an old man on a mountaintop. His son is tied to an altar and the old man is holding aknife in his hand!"
Sarah cried out six times, and her soul departed.

"Corresponding to Sara's six screams, we are commanded to blow six tekiyos-uninterrupted shofar sounds- on Rosh Hashanah"

This is extra biblical jewish legend among orthodox jews to this day.

I remember a story in a tabloid I saw when I was in high school about a "giraffe necked woman." But even the tabloid didn't say she was a demon!

My dad once met Robert Wadlow, who still holds the world's record at 8 feet, 11.3 inches. He was a pituitary giant and died in his early twenties of an infection resulting from poor circulation.
