Does anyone here collect rare/antiquitarian books? I've started doing this recently, mainly so I would stop spending my money on coffee and other things that I can live without. I just bought a couple Easton Press books (their not rare but they are very nice editions) and 1903 copy of some of Poe's work.

This is a good idea. I would love to collect books such as that, but I have very little space to do so at this time. I think that it would be a collection that would give one pleasure for the rest of their life. But I am a bookworm too. I love the classics.

I collect books. Can't bear to part with them. The older the better.
Mostly cookbooks, gardening & homesteading, how to's and the like but I have a few of the classics. To me they are a bit of history and a bit nostalgia. If it teaches me something I really enjoy it.
If only I knew more about book preservation.
Do you know anything about preserving them???
What is the oldest book you own? I have a few from the late 1800's (not many). Most of mine are from the early 1900's.
when i have enough money it would be sweet to get my hands on the first editions of the hobbit and lord of the rings when they first came out or chronicles of narnia

Yowza! I have the hardcover 2nd edition LoTR from 1966. I bought them for a buck each at a garage sale. They're in great shape too. I never checked their value until just now, after reading your post. $170! That's not a bad return on my investment.
