Theistic big bang, atheistic big bang, it's all the same bag of chips. Anyone have anything new and interesting to bring to this thread which has been raised from the dead?

I agree - I mean, it could have happened that way. The Bible didn't specify how God put the matter together in making the earth. It spoke bout the Heaven and Earth being created and then spoke about the creation of things ON the Earth. So who knows, it could very well be a case of that "bang" occurring when God spoke this world into existence.

1 Chr 4:10 -
..."Oh that thou would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!" And God granted him that which he requested.

The Big Bang is a bit of a misnomer to be honest.

I agree with Clavin of Clavin and Hobbes fame.

It should actually be called the Big Space Kablooey.

Much better.

For the same reason people rabbit on about the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.

Having said that though, please don't start talking about that. It would be a huge waste of time.

We are told that the Talmud or the Oral traditions say the universe started off the size of a seed and began to expand. The Big Bang theory started off as Jewish mystisism a long time ago. At least 1000 years ago. It is only recently in the last 100 years that it was picked up by science and became a physics theory. They modified it slightly to say the universe started off as smaller than a seed. The "big bang" was actually a joke someone made up about the theory and it stuck, because it appeals to people.
