College Life

People were mentioning this in Kristi's thread about loans, so I figured I'd start a new topic. Do you work while you are in school, if so, how much? Do you live in the dorms, or with your parents or in an apartment? How do you pay for school?

I got a job as soon as I turned 18 working for Initial Security. Starting pay was around 10.25, and you really can't beat that around here. I work overnights, sunday night to thursday night, midnight to eight, and at one point 11-7. I've been working at the same place for 2 years now, and am a supervisor. I have been going to school for 2 years and haven't taken out any loans yet, my parents have helped me pay for about half of my tuition over the past 2 years. About 2 months after I graduated I moved in with my best friend Mel, and lived with her for a year, after that she moved out and my fiance (then boyfriend) moved in. We lived together for a year, and last month got a smaller, cheaper, but much nicer apartment. I don't mind working full time, I don't have much time for extra curriculars but I have 8 quiet hours every night to do all of my homework. Schedule for this fall: work 12-8, sleep 9-5, class 6-10 (m,w,f).

So, what's are your college lives like?

I live in the dorms, but go home on weekends to work(except when there are football games - I'm in the marching band). Every day my classes start at 11, then go till 12:55 MWF and 1:45 TR, with band every day from 3-4. It's some good fun. Oh yeah, I've got a night class Wednesday from 6:15-8:45 and an online class.

I haven't started school quite yet, but I will definitely be working throughout college to pay off some of the loans I've already taken. I'm not getting much financial aid from my parents (they are really trying though) and the school did as much as possible. Hopefully, I'll be able to work around 25 hours a week during school to put toward the costs of attending.

For my first year, I will be living in the dorms as well. Next year, I may look into an appartment with a couple guys but I'm not really sure about that one yet. Kind of depends on how this first year goes.

coolhandluke will become famous soon enough
Well, this will be my first year in college. I definitely will *not* be getting a job this year, and probably won't be getting a job for the next four years. My schooling is free, I got a full scholarship, and my supplies and stuff are covered in that scholarship with a credit at the bookstore, so I don't really need money for that. And any spending money I need will come from the parents. I'll be living in the dorms, and hopefully next year I'll get into the honors apartments and live with a friend of mine. MWF I have classes from 8-10:50, and on Tuesday and thursday I have classes from 8-10:20, and then a class from 1-2:15 in the afternoon. And chapel on Wednesdays at 11. That's all I know of my schedule for now, cus this is my first experience with this whole college thing.

I'm currently looking for a job. So hopefully I will be working while going to school. I really don't have any choice since my parents will not be helping me out for a while.

I'll be going to school M-W-F. I'll have Tuesday's and Thursday's off so I can work then. (But I'll also need time for studying). On Monday's and Friday's I have 2 classes. The first at 8-8:50, the second 1-1:50. I have 5 hours in between, but I think I'll stay at school and work on my homework then. I could work after my 2nd class though.

On Wednesdays I'll be at school all day. My first class begins at 8, and my last class ends at 9 . I'll have some time in between those classes to do homework and what not.

So far, that's how things will be going for me. I really need money for gas. I'm gonna have to go pick up bottles on the road!

I don't have to pay for my schooling, my parents are paying for that However, I can't tell you what my schedual is, cuz I've been waitlisted for a bunch of classes. What I signed up for was that I would be finished by 12:20 mwf, 11 on tuesday and have thursday off. That was first term, but I dunno if its gonna work or not since, yeah. I am waitlisted for chem 115, but not chem 116, I don't get it!

I don't work when I'm at school...I might work when I get a car up there, but not right now.

I live in the dorms! I started school last year, and the roommate I was randomly paired with became my best friend in the entire world, so that made it an awesome experience. Although, the typical stuff was not so fun - community bathrooms, and bad, bad cafeteria food. But, this year I'm living in a suite style dorm with my roommate from last year and two guys. Four rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room.

My parents pay for school...I got a decent scholarship for all four years though, and this year I had to take out a loan because my dad doesn't have a job right now though.

I will be getting a job in September. I have a really good schedual...all of my classes are done by 1:30 each day except I have a biology lab on Thursday nights...and I have no school at all on Friday's...so I will have time for probably 2 shifts a week. My parents are paying for my first year then I have to pay after that...and I will be living at home. The college I am going to is a 6 minute drive from my house so I am lucky.

My schedule stinks. It always does without fail but I am hoping to change it so that on Mondays I go from 8-12 and then I have a bio lab at either 2-5 or 6-9. Tuesdays and Thursdays are not set yet b/c I don't know if I should take physics along with organic chem and microbiology and calculus all in the same semester. Wednesdays 8-12 and Friday 10-11. I'm looking for a job (hoping someone will hire me; the search would be much easier if I had a car. ) b/c I have no spending money and no parents to give me any. But my tuition, fees, room and board are all covered by my scholarship so that's great.
