to tell you a bit of what happened . My weekend ( my weekend is modays and tuesdays) was a nightmare. I will tell you about it but 1st of all I have to tell you my family and I are all ok at least physically. If you want to know more about what happened click here of read a brief bit by continue. Basically my family and sevral other people where at trolly square (salt lake city mall) when a gun man entered into the mall and started shooting at people all together 6 were killed 4 where injured. I got my family out the opposite end of the mall from where i heard the shots and went back in to help a few others. I succeed in getting 6 people out while an off duty police officer from a city north of us confronted the man on my last trip in i heard the gunner was killed but just thinking one of the victims could have been me or my family is hard to think about. If i was more prepared maybe less lives would have been lost but i was of duty and did not have my gun or body armor on.

What you are feeling right now is called survivor's guilt. Your quick action saved you and those around you. I don't want to tell you what you should be thinking, but would encourage you to think about who else would have died had you not been there.
I'm sure that you and your family are feeling really bad right now, but let me reassure you that you are in a blessed estate right now. The fact that you all are still here means that God has more work for you to do here on this earth. Try not to give into the temptation to feel guilty, because everything is in God's hands. Although we don't understand why, this mall shooting somehow fits into the grand plan that God has worked out.
The off-duty police officer who stopped the man was meant to be the one. If you get a chance to talk to him, he will probably have a list of reasons why he should not have been there and should not have had his weapon with him. It was just a coincidence (if you believe in such things) that he happened to be there at the right time to do something.
You were meant to be there and do what you did. Praise God for you! Those you helped to get out probably praise God for you, as well.
Even so, I know that this was hard on everyone. Take time to heal with your family. If necessary, seek some counseling. Talking about things can be tremendously helpful sometimes. I am inspired to know that even in such a terrible situation, there were Christians right there, doing what God had planned for them.
God bless.

I know him i too am a police officer but i was unprepared this was one of the rare few times that i did not have my side arm but i am glad i was able to help to help a few i know God has a plan for everyone but none the i feel that if i was prepared better i would have helped more people. But i still feel i did not do enouph i feel if i was prepared i would have been able to prevent some of the deaths

I am not sure that you by yourself would have been able to do much more than you did. I think what you did already is heroic by the way.
Forgive yourself, you did the best you could! God has those who died in His hands!

"You ask, will the heterodox be saved... Why do you worry about them? They have a Saviour Who desires the salvation of every human being. He will take care of them. You and I should not be burdened with such a concern. Study yourself and your own sins..." (St. Theophan)
St. Isaac of Syria (7th century): "Someone who is considered among men to be zealous for truth has not yet learnt what truth is really like: once he has truly learnt it, he will cease from zealousness on its behalf."
Everything happens for a reason, even our failings. Only God knows the true answer. It could be that you were destined to die, had you been prepared. Things don't happen by accident. God's will was for you to be there in the situation that you were in.
Now, if you had been prepared and failed to act, we could discuss whether you failed in your duty. Try to trust that God made you "forgetful" on this one day because He had something else in mind for you.
