I have a little curio cabinet that I have put all my sea shells. I have made a nice display. I have a friend that drilled a hole in asorted tine sizes of mollusk shells then she strung them together, and it sits on her shelf in the bathroom. Another nice way to display them is in a glass globe shaped bowl.
I collect sea shells as well. I get more every time I go to the beach - which is quite often!
I use them mostly for decoration. I've done some neat things with them...some of my larger ones, I have spray painted, and used a spray adhesive to put a very fine glitter on - they look really neat. I have made candles out of them - also the larger ones. The candle sits inside the shell. I have a shell lamp. I have a fishing net on my wall with many shells in it. I created a "shell topiary". I also have a little "mini" beach on the top of my chest of drawers. I draped a sheet over the top to keep it from being so messy, and kind of bundled up the ends of it. Then I took craft sand (I got it at Michaels Arts and Crafts), and spread that in the middle of the sheet. Then I took some green fake moss - looks like seaweed and put around the edges to cover up the sheet. I have shells, a mini beach chair and umbrella and even a sand castle candle holder that my mom bought for me all in the beach. It's fun, but can be messy if I hit it wrong! LOL
I've also glued shells onto picture frames, onto the edges of my shelfs, and just have loose shells lying around my room. I have many more in a white basket on my floor. The possibilities are endless!!!!!!!!
I have a question for you all. Do you spray them with any kind of shellac or anything else to help preserve them for a longer time. I had some that I had to throw away because of deterioration.
