my sister and her children have it and i am at risk but too scared to get checked out.
from what my sis tells me, the doctors aren't 100% sure it's a disease yet.but i know she is in constant pain, she is always fatigued.but much beyond that, i am not much help.if you ask specific questions i can ask her when she returns from vacation.

The parts you've mentioned there I know already, I am mostly looking to find out if anyone else's doctor has given them a more hopeful prognosis? I think that's what I'm looking for anyway. I've done a good bit of research, but I have found that sometimes just asking gets better answers than all the research in the world!

Reps: 2,001,234,393,029,626,112 (power: 2,001,234,393,029,653) | | I was dx'd with fibromyalgia a couple years ago. However after reading about the disease I concluded that what I had was definitely NOT fibro. After 4-5 months with nothing helping me I was finally correctly dx'd with rheumatoid arthritis. While I was in such pain and agony I found a wonderful message board with hundreds of fibro sufferers. I will get you the URL if you'd like. It was so nice to be able to compare thoughts, ups, downs, victories, with each other. You would learn a lot about fibro there.
aw, what the heck I'll just give it to you and you check it out if you want: http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/...ne=5&LastLogin=

Reps: 377 (power: 0) | | | There's an article which states a linking of Fibromyalgia to the Polio vaccine. Could be! Too early to tell at this time. The article was in the March 2003 edition of Essential Oils Healthline News.
I to have an auto-immune disorder which Fibromyalgia is a part. And yes, men are at risk to this also, it is not just a woman's disorder.
A cheerful heart makes good medicine.
Blessings

Reps: 185,979 (power: 196) | | | Thank you both! I am checking out the link, thank you. I was aware that men also suffer from this disorder, even though the percentage is lower. I have heard a thousand explanations for that, I personally tend to believe it's not so much that there are necessarily fewer male sufferers, as fewer male diagnoses (men generally are more stoic than women, and more reluctant to seek medical attention, particularly for "vague" problems) Again, thank you for your help! Blessed Be!

Reps: 37 (power: 0) | | | What a coincidence.. I was just reading up on this too. I've been having trouble sleeping, I'm dead tired all day, my bowel acts up more than usual (I had it removed due to ulcerative colitis), I have a lot of joint and muscle pain.. and this is all getting worse as time goes by. I know that Fibromyalgia is linked to auto-immune issues, and UC is too, so I wouldn't be surprised if I have something like this going on as well.
Here's an article I was just reading:

Reps: 185,979 (power: 196) | | Well, while I can't guarantee anything, you just might have fibro. I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor on it, they may not all agree, but the majority at least try to help! It is not at all pleasant, so I must say I hope you have something else, something more curable than endurable! It is quite a trial to go through pain all day every day and know the best you can hope for is a "good day" You have all of my best wishes and prayers.

Reps: 377 (power: 0) | | | Layne, I suggest you follow Square C's advice, but I would add ask for a complete blood work including liver and CPK check. There are other disorders which are masked by Fibro.

Excellent suggestion! I'm at work right now, my posts aren't always as thorough as I should perhaps make them! In fact, the usual manner of coming to a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is through elimination of all other possible problems, since there is as yet, no definitive test for Fibro. In point of fact, the sister of a friend of mine had a diagnosis of Fibro for years, and when she had to change doctors, this one found that her actual problem was a severe wheat allergy! So please, eliminate anything else it could possibly be, don't take it for granted that Fibro is what you have......there are quite a few other problems it could be that are much more easily treated, or even cured!
