Hi Sandlapper! Welcome to OBOB! I'm fairly new here myself. Been here about 2 weeks and so far I really like it. It's nice to finally find a board to fellowship with other Roman Catholics.

When you were telling your story, it reminded me of the movie "A Dad for Christmas". There are some similarities. A young man who ended up being a single father through some circumstances. I found the movie very inspiring and heartwarming. So it's nice to meet a real live example of a young man who's trying his best to be a good father. It's wonderful of your parents to be there for you.

God bless you, your daughter Victoria, and your parents. Each of you will be in my prayers, as well as Victoria's mother.

In Christ,
Bridgette

And what a wonderful blessing you have, having a little daughter to love and raise! It is hard, but so very well worth it...and when people tell you that to charish her when she is so little, because they grow so fast...BELIEVE THEM!! Oh my gosh, they grow fast, I raised my three from the time my oldest son was 4, my daughter was 3 and the baby was just 8 months old. It can be done, believe me because if I can do it....with God's help, you can too and you will, out of love for Victoria and love of God!

What helped me when things were going really, really bad and I wanted to just say...I can't do this any more, is I would go into one of the kids bedrooms, while they were sleeping and look at their precious little faces, I would usually kneel down right at their bed and pray a Rosary. But if I was really exhausted from the day, I would lay down with them and just look at how beautiful they are and pray.

lol, my kids are now 21, 20 and 19...and the other day, my baby, my youngest son had the stomache flu (yuck!!), and once he stopped throwing up (after 8 hours), I knelt down next to him on the couch and prayed a Rosary...and he still looked so precious, even as an adult!!

You'll do fine, you're not alone...just pray A LOT!! And there are a lot of moms and dads on this forum who will gladly pray for you and listen and offer advice whenever you ask for it.

Philip, you and Victoria will be in my prayers, but you are both truly blessings to each other...and of course your mom!! I have a great mom who is real involved with my children too! Take advantage of your wonderful mom's help as long as you can and get a degree as quick as you can, it gets harder as you get older! I thought it would be a good idea to just work while my kids were young and finish school when they got older. They're older and I am helping them out with college now!! I waiteressed for years, then worked my way up into office work all while being a youth minister and DRE. I decided to give up the rest and just do the ministry work...I wont get rich with this plan, but I get by.

And as hard as this sounds to do...pray for Victoria's mother, she needs it so much, she really sounds lost. I'll pray for her too...but also for you and your beautiful baby girl!!
If I had three of them, I'd be in a padded room in the state mental institution right now.

Y'all's words mean a lot, it's easy living in a small town to feel like an island. It's reassuring to know someone out there survived the same road without going absolutely crazy.

I know me, if I don't get some form of degree now, I'll get old and then never bother doing it. Couldn't do it if I couldn't take my classes online. Gotta love technology!

I appreciate your story, Veronica. Thank you.

I'm Sandlapper, though my real name is Phillip. 24, converted to Catholicism my sophomore year at North Carolina. Dropped out of school for financial reasons. Made a few mistakes, ended up with a pregnant girlfriend and about 75 bucks to my name.

To make a really long, really personal story short, we thought we were going to have the baby and get married. Didn't happen. After Victoria was born, she panicked. More personal details I won't post to a bunch of folks I hardly know, I ended up keeping Victoria. Last I heard, she's off living with some guy in Alabama or somewhere. Doesn't want anything to do with Victoria.

Victoria's 16 months old now, I'm stuck working in the local pharmacy at all hours, looking for a better job. Going back to school over the internet. Thank God for my mother who finds nothing as fascinating as holding the baby

I guess that turned into a grandiose introduction. Sorry about that. It's really nice to find a Catholic folder here. Please don't jump on me

I'm studying Business Administration. Not for any particular reason, other than it could be useful, and in this market, just having a degree to your name is half the battle.
