Reps: 4,478 (power: 14) | | I've built a Catholic shrine in my locker at school, complete with candles and Gregorian chant. That usually does the trick for me, as far as witnessing goes.

Or they could have had the bamboozle scared out of them by some preacher who said that if they didn't witness, those people's blood would be "on their hands." Whatever. Scare tactics to get you "saved," scare tactics to make you get other people "saved." It's a fear-driven pyramid scheme.

If the topic is anything remotely controversial, like religion or politics, tens of somebodys will jump on the stupidly literal interpretation, and arguments about the validity of the analogy will come to totally dominate the discussion." Somewhere on the Internet, there is a thread like this about you

"A Catholic can either continue on the failed and uncertain path of seeking to overturn Roe, which would result in the individual states doing their own thing, not necessarily, or in most states even likely, protective of the unborn. The thing that bothers me about a particular kind of witnesing- is that there is an invisible score sheet being kept for how many people they "have brought to Christ". I have actually heard this often-- people talking about how many people they brought to Christ. And I just recoil at that...
To me that is so inherently flawed from the get go- that there is the sense of personal glory and satisfaction for the person - rather than doing all for the glory of God. I don't bring people to Jesus- the Holy Spirit does, I am but a vessel who can seek to speak when prudent, to stay silent when prudent and to live my life as the very sign and symbol of the joyful sacrifice of Christ and the fullness of His redemption.
People notice compassion, gentlenes, joy, long suffering-- all of the fruits of the Spirit. If it's just us- we are but one of the masses--but if we live life in the Spirit abundantly - people take notice.
Mostly people just feel awkward when Jesus is introduced through a handshake for the purpose of a notch on the wall.
I believe that "invisible score sheet" is called "Soul Winning." I have a lady I work with who constantly tries to "soul win" to me. More often than not, I find her methods very...offensive. I don't think people should assume in that sense. They automatically assume that you aren't a God-worshipping, Christ-believing individual. Oh...and my favorite. The county fair where they have a booth set up and start in on the "Do you know if you are going to Heaven?" routine. Not saying they have it wrong, they are just going about it the WRONG way. |
