Reps: 45 (power: 0) | | | Mosquitos biting you? Mosquito Remedy Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West Nile Virus?
Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum. Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent.Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon FreshJoy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.
Check this out---it works just super! May seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your home.

Sounds like a chemical version of a bug zapper. Only without the entertainment value. (Or the smell.)
With these things I'm always concerned that it will, in fact, draw more bugs into the area than would be there normally.
Have you tried this?

Reps: 869 (power: 0) | | I posted this in another thread, but thought you guys might like to see it too...it's an easy solution - no "chemicals", just vitamins!
FYI - just a little tidbit, although it is too late now... To keep mosquitos from biting during the summer months, start taking Vit. B around the first of April and continue taking it through the summer months. It's important to start a few months before mosquitos get bad though. The Vit. B releases a scent from your body that mosquitos can smell, but humans can not. They won't bite you. My pediatrician shared this secret with my mom when I was very young because I was having such severe reactions to the bites. (I am HIGHLY allergic) He said there really is no scientific reason why it works, but that it does - and I'm here to tell you, it really does. I've taken it every year that I remember to start early enough, and the years that I have taken it, I have managed to go the whole summer with less than 5 bites - a far stretch from when I don't take it! Give it a shot next year if you live in a heavily mosquito populated area like I do! |
