Darkness was on the face of the deep

Genesis 1:1-2
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [2] The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

We see here that God created the heaven and the earth. Yet the earth was in a state of ruin, desolation and destruction had come to it. Perhaps to man it look acceptable, but to God it was a wasteland with nothing of any value.

We see that "darkness was on the face of the deep"

1 Cor. 2:10
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

Paul tells us about the deep things of God. But in Genesis ch one, we see where there was nothing but darkness on the face of the deep. That is why the first work God does in our life is to turn on the light.

Genesis 1:3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

God turned on the light, now you can know the deep things of God. If you come to that light. But if you remain in darkness, then you will not know the deep things of God. You will be in a wasteland of ruin and destruction. It may look ok to you, even acceptable. But not to God.

The invitation is open to all today. Whosoever is willing, let them come.

Come out of destruction, confusion, and every worthless thing. Come out of your void, and your emptyness. Come to the light, and come to know the depth of God, you can know the deep things of God. We do not have to walk in darkness any longer. We can be redeemed and restored. God wants to take a worthless thing and make it brand new. Better than new. All are invited, and the living water is flowing.

Why eat from the tree of death, when we can have the abundant life? God wants to provide all we need, even abundantly above and beyond all that we would ever even think to ask for. It is all available to us now. Today is the day, now is the time for salvation.

Rev. 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

I used to wonder why creationists would take quotes by scientists out-of-context to make them mean something opposite from what they were really saying. Then I started looking at what some Christians did to the Bible, like above. And guess what? They take the Bible out-of-context to make it mean what THEY want it to mean, not what it says.

So taking scientists out of context is no biggie after you've messed around with God's Word.

As an example, John equates "the face of the deep" in Genesis 1 with "the deep things of God" in Corinthians, even tho the two are completely different. Verse 11 says "It is only a person's own spirit witin him that knows all about him; in the same way, only God's Spirit knows all about God." Thus, "deep things of God" refers not to some physical thing as in Genesis 1, but God's thoughts and personality.

In order to bolster this man-made theology, the Bible was taken out of context.

This is proselytizing, John, and not discussing science. If you want to proselytize, then head back over to Apologetics.

The only way this relates to science is if you make the error that a person has to accept a literal translation of Genesis 1 in terms of the how of creation in order to "receive all of what God has for them". Are you making that type of connection?

If not, then please stop implying it and go proselytize back in Apologetics. The only thing you are going to accomplish here is to make Christianity look foolish and drive people away from God, not attract them to him. Remember what St. Augustine said.

You teach science the way you want to teach science, and we will teach science the way we want to teach science. The statement that "darkness was on the face of the deep" is very much a statement of science that relates to the world we live in. It is also a very personal statement that relates to each individual. They go hand in hand, and you can not teach the one, without the other.

People have this idea that you can not teach science and theology at the same time and that is just not true. Moses was a Priest of the most high God, but he also was a man of science. He know about the natural world, and he wrote about the natural world that we live in.

Darwin was a student of natural theology. That is very much a combination of theology and science. Esp. the natural science. You think there can be no marriage between science and theology and your just plain wrong.

First you kick God out of the school system, now you want to come to a Christian forum and kick God out of here. I do not believe it was ever Erwin's intention to exclude God from this forum. In fact I was under the impression that it was his desire to honor and glorify God.

But do not take my word for it. Ask him yourself if he thinks we should quit talking about God on the science forum.

I dont think he wants to "kick god out of the forum" I think he wants to "kick god out of science"

Why? I dont know his reasons, but I would assume one reason would be that he understands science and understands that by putting god in science you are kinda trivilizing god and turning him into a tool.

I did not expect that you would understand when we began to talk about the deep things of God. It is up to you how deep you want to go into the things of God. It is up to each individual how deep they want to go into the river of life. Some people get their feet wet, and some will go in up to their knee or waist. But there are other who will go all the way in over their head so they have to swim.

Ezekiel 47:3-5
And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles. [4] Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist. [5] Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed.
