Dr. Dino

What do you all think of Kent Hovind?

His videos were recommended to us by a friend and we have been downloading them and watching them off of his Dr. Dino site. His attempts at humor are pretty terrible lol, but we are finding his views on dinosaurs and the pre-flood earth to be interesting. Much of what he is saying on them has been what we've been discussing at Bible study (prior to us ever hearing of Mr. Hovind).

Anyway... I had asked this on the general science board here and well... it wasn't pretty... so, I thought I'd ask amongst other Christians...

Also... we are very interested in Creation Science. We have held to the belief that the Universe and all were created in a literal 6 days for a long time... and that the earth is young, just shy of 6000 years. If you have any sites to share other than Hovind's that share the basic views of 6 literal days and a young earth.... please share... Thanks

I think he's a con artist. You should look at AiG, who are somewhat better, and who point out that many of the arguments Hovind uses are sufficiently obviously false that even other creationists reject them.

I do not believe that Hovind is anything like a qualified scientist, nor do I think he has any interest in begin one; I believe he's taking advantage of the number of people in the U.S. who are committed to one particular interpretation of scripture. His degree is from a diploma mill run out of a house, not an accredited institution; he has engaged in behaviors that would generally be considered academic fraud, such as altering his thesis after getting his "degree". The original is hilarious; no real university would ever have accepted that.

I have much the same opinion of Kent Hovind as the posters on your other thread on this topic. I've watched one of his seminars from his website and I was pretty offended by his statements that evolution is a creation of the devil.
I find his FAQs are often absolutely rediculous. This example's my favorite:

http://www.drdino.com/cse.asp?pg=faq&specific=42

It's my favorite because it takes an enormous problem for the global flood (biogeography), simplifies it to only talk about kangaroos, and then provides answers that are not only silly but also create all new problems. Some of his answers in this FAQ aren't even answers, they're just posted (it seems) to make people think he answered when he just cited meaningless rubbish.

If you're interested, since I brought it up, the regular Evolution/Creationism board has a good thread on biogeography:

They're pretty bad if you compare them to real science in the fields; the man is an amazing fast-talker, but he doesn't understand the science at all.

I wouldn't say that.
I while back I asked a question "Is there any flaws in Dr. Dino's Scince, if so what are they?" and nobody could tell me any.

I didn't see that thread, but I'd say people told you a fair number of flaws in his "science". The most telling is this:

http://www.answersingenesis.org/home...q/dont_use.asp

That's AiG, a creationist site, listing arguments that shouldn't be used - many of them Kent Hovind's.

http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs2002/1011hovind.asp

That's them responding to Hovind attacking their list of debunked arguments.

So, whatever Hovind believes, AiG thinks his science is bunk. And AiG themselves are YEC.

Mostly, though, the underlying flaw is that Hovind doesn't do science, he repeats various stories and tries to pass them off as science. He doesn't use anything similar to the scientific method.

Re: Dr. Dino

Yesterday at 12:08 AM IamThatHero said this in Post #1

What do you all think of Kent Hovind?
Dr Dino is a Baptist who likes to be associated with people like Bob Jones. I can not say I go along with all of their beliefs, but I think he does a good job of presenting them and defending them.

I come out of more of a pentacostal tradition and believe more along those lines, than I do the Baptist beliefs. But I would not go so far as to say they are not christians, and I do not think they would go so far as to say pentacostals are not christians.

Baptists and Pentacostals do tend to have fundamentalism in common though. They basicly agree on the fundamentals.

IamThatHero,

I believe Kent Hovind is a very good creation scientist.

His political points of view aren't worth listening to though.

Answers in Genesis and Drdino aren't the only creationists who have differences, many of them do.

I also like:

God Bless,
