Creation & EvolutionForum for the discussion of this important topic. This forum is open to non-believers. There is a Christians-only forum in the Christians-only section too.
Today at 09:41 AM Nathan Poe said this in Post #130 Fundamentalist Christians claim to have the Holy Spirit inside them. They also claim that the Bible was inspired by the the Holy Spirit. So when they themselves cannot express themselves in clear, modern English, what does that do to the claim that the Bible, written in thousands of years of translated English, is infallable?
There are people who do not live holy, sanctified lives. In there case the Spirit just comes upon them and tends to come and go. Because they quench and grieve the Holy Spirit.
This is different from being filled or full of the Holy Spirit. In order to be used by God in this way, you have to pray, fast, & live in the word. You have to be Holy, dedicated, consecrated and set about for every good work.
Not all christians are willing to do what they need to do, in order to be used by God. In that case they should stick to a witness and a testimony and just telling people what God has done in their life. Really, our job is to lift up Jesus and to draw attention to Him and in doing so, we will not be drawing any attention to ourself.
I really think your a true seeker but you do not have much use for dogma or the doctorines of men. You know the truth when you see it and file it away for future use. Some day, that truth you filed away will be all you have left. I see it in my dad now that he is about 84 years old. He has lost so much memory, but he seems to remember what is right and true.

Are you saying that God can't predict what a person will do in a given situation? What happened to omnipotence?
How could you live so long and learn so little? There are two things you have to take into consideration. The free will of man and the stewardship God gave man over the earth.
If you want, we would be glad to teach you about these things. If your interested to learn. But of course we can not teach something to someone who does not want to learn about it.

And even those who are filled with the Spirit stumble now and again. That's part of what being human is all about. You stumbled on your definition of what God can and cannot do. But nobody's perfect.

John, this might be the nicest thing you've ever said about me
And you may be right. If I were to experience a divine revelation -- God appearing to me in no uncertain terms -- I'd be pretty foolish to wave Him off. But the only knowledge we have about God has been badly diluted through thousands of years of the "dogma and doctrine of men."
That's probably what Mark Twain meant when he said "If Christ were alive today, there's one thing He would not be -- A Christian."
And I do like your comment about me filing the truth away for future use. Don't we all? The difference is, I simply have a tougher screening process for determining what is "truth" and what isn't. Nothing escapes the screening process; even God will have to show two pieces of ID. It's even tougher than airport check-in.
So when that truth is all I have left, I'll know for certain that it's premium, high-octaine truth. That's why I have the Thomas Jefferson quote in my sig.

To them, you're just a freak, like me! They need you right now, but when they don't, they'll cast you out, like a leper! You see, their morals, their code, it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other.
See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

Take it to the apologetics forum, we discuss science here.
A discussion on creationism strayed away from science?
Who'd have thunk it?
