It's not as simple as either party is making it out to be. There was indeed a lack of funding for expanding the levees, but there certainly isn't money being pumped into coastal restoration. Sounds crazy, but it can be done. The money to restore Louisiana's coast is much less than constantly rebuilding New Orleans.
Republicans had it coming. Those of us who placed our trust in the GOP to do certain things in 04 feel that the incumbents didn't do jack-diddly regarding the causes we held dear. I am Catholic first, conservative (politically) second, and Republican to vote in primaries. I hope America enjoys what it has coming to them.
Goodbye tax relief.
Goodbye strong military
Goodbye coorperation between law enforcement and intelligence.
Goodbye some hope for reducing the abomination of abortion.
Goodbye school vouchers.
Prepare for impeachment hearings.

I mean the Dems won the election less than 24 hours ago and look:
1) We're 9.7 Trillion dollars in debt, mostly to China
2) The middle class is slipping into poverty
3) News Orleans isn't there anymore
4) Habis Corpus has been suspended
5) Congress is have sex with anything with a pulse
6) We're less secure as a nation that on 9/10/01
7) The world won't work with us on anything
8) And what's with this war in Asia, anyway ?
Darn Dem's
I'm quite sure this has no relevance whatsoever on the OP. Its a nice little rant though. Good job.

In terms of abortion, it is more important that the Senate stay in Republican hands than the House. It appears that the Senate will be evenly divided with Cheney casting the tiebreaker vote, when necessary (Montana and Virginia are both leaning towards the Democrats by slight margins, although there will be recounts.) Two of the Democratic supporters are really independents (Lieberman and one other.) I think that the tight balance in the Senate might cause Bush to make more moderate nominations, but I am sure that his nominations would still be relatively conservative (and isn't one Scalia on the Court one too many, anyway?)
In terms of Democrats regaining the House, this means that we will finally have some checks and balances in Washington again, and, given Bush's propensity for abusing executive power, it is badly needed.
All appropriations bills must emanate from the House....and so the Democrats' House win might just mean that the President who is hurtling our nation and the world headfirst into Armageddon will have his wings clipped.
And so hopefully all those of you who weep for 1.2 million unborn babies might spend some time thinking about the 6 billion human beings living in a world that US Intelligence Agencies say has been made more dangerous, more tenuous, and more destabilized thanks to Bush policies, and:
rejoice for those 6 billion human beings...

All without losing 1 (not one) Statewide Dem seat anywhere in America.
THAT's a nice little rant
Well, we have 2 years to see what kind of mess they make of this country.

Actually, I'm thinking the Democrats are being set up for this one. The Republicans have distanced themselves from the evangelicals lately, even going to the point of alienating them. All Bush's talk of staying the course is just that: talk. His term ends in Jan. 2009, when the new President takes over the reigns of power after the 2008 elections. If the President is a Democrat and the Democrats maintain control of Congress in 2008, we can expect to pull out from Iraq. If the dire predictions of some come true, it can be conveniently blamed on the Democrats and Bush gets to say, "I told you so. It's all [insert Democratic president's name] fault."
I'm not exactly a Liberal, but no attacks since 9/11 could also have something to do with the fact that terrorists cause more damage to American morale in Iraq than they do attacking American soil. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
It's also because of Iraq terrorists are on the run in Iraq and can't hit us here. I would rather fight terror in Iraq than in New York or LA or anywhere else in the USA.
PA lost Rick Santorum in the Senate as well as Melissa Hart for District 4, State House. I'm hoping we can maintain control of the senate...its the only way we'll get legislative action for those babies!

TRUE LOVE WAITS! Silver Ring Thing -- April 25, 2003
Because the terrorists are attacking Spain, England and Afganistan.
Besides, why bother attacking us at the moment - its not like we're actaully planning to inspect contrainers coming into this country any time soon.
Also, I've read reports that Hesb'allah is bringing in people over the Mexician border regualarly.
So maybe they're just staffing up.
Right, and the Democrats really have a plan for sealing those borders. At least the conservative Republicans want to seal the borders instead of open them wide like the liberals want to.
