sister dearest, the quotes take my breath away and bring to light the wonder of our Beautiful Jesus. I think you should definitely keep going.

Lord...
I am coming to you —
but only with your mercy.
-Saint Catherine of Siena
Beautiful Jesus, sweet Lord of love, bring rest to the souls in purgatory. O Jesus, my God and theirs, have mercy on them- Your family, Your lovers and friends, Your servants- O Jesus!
Beloved Savior! O Christ my Happiness! have mercy! O Blood of Jesus!
I undesignedly resurrected this thread only because I hit upon it out of the blue with a Google search for Gabrielle Bossis, but I'm glad that I did because of my great interest in communion with God. Of all that I have found on the communion with God in my life to date, (both Catholic and Protestant,) this woman has by far the most intimate, affecting, profound and literally tear jerking testimony that I know of extant. It is most unique.
As you slowly work your way through her touching testimony, I sometimes almost find myself mentally picturing her sitting in a train station on a cold rainy day upon a hard bench, gazing down the tracks, her bags laying still by her feet, deserted of human companion, but all the time secretly conversing within her soul with the God whom she loves so very much. It is difficult to determine in her testimony whether she is holding communion with the Father or with the Son, but both fellowships seem to be allowed for in I John 1:3.
"...that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ."
I laminated my paperback copy of "He and I" today with clear plastic film for protection, presuming upon a blessed lifetime searching and re-searching of it's sacred contents. I don't think that "Lui Et Moi" will ever grow old...for me.
There is a similar book called Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. The devotions are written from the viewpoint of God, talking to His child. One of her devotionals:
Grow strong in the Light of My Presence. Your weakness does not repel Me. On the contrary, it attracts My Power, which is always available to flow into a yielded heart. Do not condemn yourself for your constant need of help. Instead, come to Me with your gaping neediness; let the Light of My Love fill you.
A yielded heart does not whine or rebel when the going gets rough. It musters the courage to thank Me even during hard times. Yielding yourself to My will is ultimately an act of trust. In quietness and trust is your strength.

I love the way you described the scenes in the book. That verse from 1 John is excellent too! I have given He and I away as a gift to friends. often this book has brought tears and many sighs to my heart. Thanks again for bringing the thread back on the board!

"Don't be afraid of being too tender. Or of saying too much to your Beloved. Complain about yourself. Say to Him, 'When will you heal me, my Great Friend, of this or of that?' So many things in you are unworthy of Me. Humble yourself as you think of this. Hide all your ugliness in My heart. It's a hospital, you know, and doesn't one sometimes come out of a hospital cured? Trust in Me with all of your heart since I am your great Friend! You remember the key note for the year, "Hope in Me." My help never comes to an end and I never cease to watch over you. I am infinite and I am Love!"
My note* Lets not give the beautiful, encouraging words in this book a passing glance and if you feel so inclined please share how they spoke to you and how they inspired you to come closer to our Lord. This is my desire for all the quotes posted here.

"Don't be afraid of being to tender"... I remember a time in my early walk being afraid of being tender of heart, I thought there was something wrong with me as whenever I would hear my pastor speak a sermon or hear a touching song, I would begin to cry..I didn't understand what was happening inside and I didn't know how to handle these emotions. So afraid was I that I hid the tears, thinking it made me look like a weak man.
So I asked God to take it away. I didn't know! what I was asking! As time went on I became harder of heart turned away from righteousness and God. What a rough road I had taken...I went so long without tears that I thought they would never come again. When I came to an end of me and looked around and hated what I had become, I cried out to God to have mercy upon me. My heart tore open and the weight of sin was lifted and the tears began to flow. Oh My God please never let them end in this world for as the tears flow I know that it is your precious love that is being spread upon my heart. I am overwhelmed with your love and never want it to end and I don't care who sees me cry. Your precious blood was spilled upon calvary and your love flowed out even as my tears flow, so when I cry now I remember your sacrifice for us Yeshua our redeemer, friend, lover, King.
