One of the perks about living on the facility where I work is that I get to go home for breaks and lunch. The other day we were cleaning ponds, and it was kinda foggy out...not really raining yet but a heavy mist getting everything wet nonetheless. About a half hour before breaktime I started thinking about something to eat...pork & beans!! That would hit the spot!! Then I remembered we had some applewood smoked bacon that would be pretty doggone good in the beans, with some barbeque sauce!

I got home and when I was getting the bacon out, I realized you can't really have beans without onion, so I diced some of that up, too. As I was frying the bacon and onions, I got to thinking about the barbeque sauce...and realized that molasses would probably be better!!

So what began as a simple taste for pork & beans, forty minutes later had turned into pork & beans with bacon and onion in molasses...the best pot of beans possible in about ten minutes!!

... interpretation is necessary to prevent our being misled by the mere sound of words. How many have formed wrong conceptions from the language used in different verses through their failure to understand its sense. To many it appears impious to place a different meaning upon a term than what appears to be its obvious signification; yet a sufficient warning against this should be found in the case of those who have so fanatically and stubbornly adhered to Christ’s words, "this [unleavened bread] is My body," refusing to allow that it must mean "this represents My body" — as "the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are [i.e. symbolize] the seven churches" (Rev. 1:20). The error of Universalism, based upon indefinite terms being given an unlimited meaning, points further warning. Arminianism errs in the same direction. "That He by the grace of God should taste death for every man"(Heb. 2:9) no more included Cain, Pharaoh and Judas than "every man" is to be understood absolutely in Luke 16:16; Romans 12:3; 1 Corinthians 4:5; and "all men" in 1 Timothy 2:4, 6, is no more to be taken as meaning all without exception than it is in Luke 3:15; John 3:26; Acts 22:15.

Just for curiosities sake - what are my US brothers and sisters fixing for Thanksgiving.

So far I'm preparing
1. turkey with stuffing (of course)
2. cranberries (a no brainer)
3. garlic mashed potatoes & gravy
4. green beens sauteed with shallots & tomatoes in olive oil, tossed with basil pesto (mmmm mmmm - thanks to Giada deLaurentis of FoodTV for this recipe)
5. brocolli/cauliflower marinated salad
6. roasted zuccini w mushrooms
7.. chocolate cheesecake

I'll have a couple of nice bottles of wine - a nice Gewurztraminer for my white, maybe a Pinot Noir or Grenache for my red.

We're sharing the holiday this year with another family from my church (our daughters are very close). Our friends will bring a salad and dessert to share.

Also, my son, his wife and my grandsons will be there.

I love Thanksgiving - it is truly my favorite holiday. There's time to relax and enjoy family and friends - no uproar of the commercialism associated with Christmas, Easter, or even Valentine's Day.

Show me a man who trusts his own righteousness, obedience, devotion, feelings, or anything else of his own, and I will show you a man to whom the blood and righteousness of Christ is worthless. Don Fortner

It often surprises people to learn that God is not always pleased when people worship him. We might be inclined to think that God should be thankful for any attention we give him out of our busy schedules. But worship is not about God's thanking us; it is about our thanking him. And God is not pleased with just anything we choose to do in his presence. The mighty Lord of heaven and earth demands that our worship-indeed, all of life-be governed by his word.
John M. Frame

The Bible will give Christ to you in an intimacy so close that he would be less visible to you if he stood before your eyes.
Erasmus

A new restaurant just opened up here in town, it's a strange combination - German and Chinese.

We went there after church yesterday to check it out, and surprisingly, it was pretty darned good!

Only one complaint, really....typical of chinese, after a half-hour we were all hungry...

There was a restaraunt chain down in the East Bay (of San Francisco) called Carlos Murphy's...Mexican/Irish!! I thought that was an odd combo, but I never tried it.
