James is right and you're right, some religion is good. It's just that some Christians, denominations, or churches place burdens upon people that aren't necessary and or even impossible to bare.

God didn't send His Son to pay for the forgiveness of your sin, and then decide He is going to require you to make installment payments. He only requires you to believe that the FULL PAYMENT was done, over 2000 yr. ago..........then you'll stop trying to make the installments on something you could never pay for anyway. The Good News is that you are debt free! |

Probably better described as legalism, if that's the rub. Religion vs. relationship is an overdone mini-theolism these days, and it almost means nothing without some elaboration beyond what anyone using it ever provides. I'm not expressing the popular view, here, but look how heavy with jumpers this band wagon gets with that one word, and there was absolutely no detail in the OP concerning what the OPer is talking about. Could this be trollishness? A Christian Rorschach response test? It bothers me a little. Should we really take posts like this seriously? I like he4rty's response. What is this about? |

Reps: 1,101 (power: 8) | | Thank you everyone for your comments. Something happened to me last night, and I just burst! I was so tired of legalistic doctrines, and I had to let out my frustration. I'm still trying to sort things out, but I very much appreciate all of the comments. Now today something totally different happened. My mom has a 90+% chance of having cancer. We're praying and believing by faith that she will be healed in the mighty name of Jesus. I'm very proud of my mom for continuing on with her life, and she's not letting this stop her. I haven't got along with my mom for a long time, (and she was actually part of the reason I posted this yesterday) but I was so proud of her when she said that if she had cancer she's not going to let it get to her and it's healed in Jesus' name! Sorry for that rambling on a bit. God bless everyone!

That is absolutely right. Jesus was constanty rebuking the pharisees and Sadacees for there trying to enforce religion rather than relationship. Religion is often to do with traditions and Christ said for the sake of traditions we nullify the intentions God had in the law.

I hate religion also - I was raised with the "you can't do this and you can't do that" they were so busy telling me what I can't do that they did not tell me what God can do.
I missed out on a lot of life because of "religion" - I wasn't allowed to do anything the other young people did and when I hear people reminising - I feel sad because I don't have any of those feelings.
There is a strong Spirit of Religion that robs God's people of their joy in the Lord.
Don't even think of your walk as religion - throw down all those man made laws and rules and just walk with your hand in the Master's hand and enjoy your walk. Jesus is a great friend - He is not sitting there ready to smack you up the side of your head if you do something wrong.
That was my picture of God for many, many years. I can still remember some of those sermons - "if you have one sin in your life and you step outside the door and get hit by a car - you will go to hell." Hell and damnation was all I ever remember for most of my life - it didn't make religion very inviting.
Just enjoy your walk hand in hand with Jesus.
