Hang in there. I have friends and relatives who are teachers. The tell me the same thing. Their 9 months is equal to our 12 months of work.

Thankyou that you have plans and purposes for every one of us. Thankyou Lord that you will never leave or forsake us. THankyou that you have given Maharg this opportunity Lord.
Now please send your power into this situation, to empower our dear sister. You o Lord made the heavens and the earth by your power and your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you, Oh great and mighty God, Lord we Bless you. Send your power Lord, the power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Give her your life Lord, because you live she too will live and you will live in her and through her. Strengthen her Lord. Help her to be strong and take heart and to rest in you oh Lord, spread your wings over her Lord and Bless her. Move our sister into her comfort zone Lord, which is found under the shelter of your wings oh Lord.
Lord I also pray for her preparations. Give her your peace to guard her heart and her mind, the peace that passes all understanding. Anoint her hands and her mind in all these things Lord. Give the children attentive ears and willing hearts that her job would be a blessing to them and to her too Lord.
In Jesus Name
Amen and amen

May God bless you for chosing such a profession, may He give you insight and endurance, fill your heart with courage and determination and make your soul strong with faith and trust that He will govern everything. Teachers hold the future in their hands.
Please please can you pray for me. It's my second week in my unqualified teacher post and I'm stressed out and exhausted and can't seem to stop crying. They've got me on an 18 hours per week teaching hours timetable, which I know doesn't sound a lot, but it's taking me about 2 hours to plan each lesson and then another hour to get all my resources ready.
I feel so terrible that I have all these children depending on me and I can only just about hold myself together, let alone them. I've got hours and hours of work to do for tomorrow, and I'm not getting to bed till after 1 and then I can't sleep.
Please please pray.
Maharg
Oh honey I am sorry you are having to deal with that kind of stress. Praying for a way to make the load so much easier for you. We are praying for you.
If the children are becoming discipline problems, go back to square one with classroom management. Rehearse over and again the basic procedures expected in your class, and the results/consequences of breaking the rules. If anyone acts out, take action immediately. The best teachers I know usually spend a good week or two just rehearsing classroom procedures. It may seem like a waste of time to focus on those and do little other work, but in the long run these teachers get in much more content since they aren't having to fight the same problems all year long.
Second, have what we call "bell work". This is some simple type of problem or review that is written on the board so that when the students walk in the door they have something to start immediately. It may be a couple of vocabulary words, or a review worksheet from the day before. The idea is to get the kids started working before they have time to think of mischief. If this becomes a standard procedure, such as "come in, sit in your desk, take out your notebook, copy the vocabulary words..." it can help get the class off to a great start while you are quietly checking the attendance, etc.
Stand at the door as the students enter and greet them by name. It's amazing how that little bit of attention can cause a student to perk up and do what they need to.
Search online for course content/lesson plans similar to what you are teaching and borrow freely from them. There's no need to re-invent the wheel if someone has already developed a full set of lesson plans that only need minor tweaking to fit your class. Once you have something in place, then you can improve it a little every year as you see what does/doesn't work for you. As you go along, you will stumble on additional resources that you can add to what you have now. When you find these, stick them in a file so you'll have them for later.
I hope these help a bit. I'll be praying as well. If you have any questions, just pm me. I'll be glad to help however I can.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.Psalm 34:7-8
This happens to many teachers in their first year. It's just an introductory nervousness. It will subside the more you just DO the teaching and keep on at it. You might find it a breeze in no time at all! God bless you in your endeavor.

Thank you so much for all the lovely replies. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. I'm about to go to bed but I'll post again tomorrow and let you all know how it's going.

Lots of good advice here...Yes, it WILL get better. As for your sleeping, make sure you aren't drinking any caffeine. Could you drink a warm glass of milk before bed?
I was a substitute teacher for 14 yrs. I admire you for choosing this profession. I can share two little tricks...one that brought instant silence in an unruly young class was to say, "Who's talking? Raise your hand..." Instant silence. It worked 100% of the time.
Another little trick was telling them about a reward and as their behavior was good, writing one letter of the reward on the board. As the day progressed, the word was slowly spelled out. Worked like a charm!
Bless you! I'll pray for joy, patience, wonderful kids and sound sleep!

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand.. Psalm 139:17-18
