Just wanted to see if anybody else enjoys young adult fiction or children's books?
I've found several books as an adult that I didn't know existed as a child. For instance, I loved The Secret Garden as a child, but didn't know the author had other books (I guess it never occurred to me). Last year I found A Little Princess and read it and LOVED it.
Anyway, I've got no shame. I'll admit it...I'm a dork.

Many children's books are better written & more interesting with a better moral outlook than adult books, which is one reason I like them. The best are completely ageless:Alice in Wonderland,My Friend Flicka,Heidi.... The list goes on & on.

I have read books before my oldest daughter if I thought it contained material that I was uncertain about. Like Harry Potter Also read a Christian Series with her because she loved it so much and wanted to discuss it with me. I read the first because I was afraid it was too scarey. Turned out it was just too scarey for me. lol
Oh wow yes! Thanks to the Movie The Lion,The Witch And The Wardrobe,I just discovered there were 7 books in The Chronicles Of Narnia! As a kid,I was into animal books only, like White Fang,Call Of The Wild, ect. Now I have been having a blast reading children's fantasy that I missed waay back then,LOL! Read All the Chronicles Of Narnia, plus discovered George MacDonald's "The Princess And The Goblin"(also a Disney Movie), and "The Princess And Curdie",(hated, couldn't bear to finish his BORING- At The Back Of The North Wind), also saw the Disney movie "A Wrinkle In Time",so then had to read that book as well. It has been a fun summer of reading!

OH MY GOSH! A Wrinkle In Time became a movie? I loved that book as a kid and I reread it a year ago, when I was trying to convince my daughter to read it. Don't forget the rest of the books in that series!
I love youth fiction more than adult fiction. It's mainly due to the fact that a lot of the things that I search for happen to only be available in the youth stories. For example, they have fun adventures and light-hearted humour. It also all serves for nostalgic purposes. Adult fiction in most cases is just too serious or just not fun.

I do read, mostly to share with my daughter, but I've found some lovely stories while looking over the library shelves with her. And, I have no small children anymore but I still buy picture books that are especially pleasing, for a long time I claimed they were for my future grandchildren, but I think everyone knew the truth

I don't see how any African-American with any inkling of history can say that you don't have the right to live your life how you want to live your life.

No one should be telling you who you should love, no one should be telling you who you should be spending the rest of your life with.
When we start talking about equality and everyone being treated equally I don't want to to know an African-American who will say everybody doesn't deserve equality
Oh I love children's books! I took a Children's Literature course at uni and discovered a lot of good children's books, mostly classics though. I love mainly fantasy books but some of the other books for children and teenagers are often really good too. They're so interesting and some have so many pleasant surprises too.

Oh picture books are so wonderful! In my Children's Literature course we looked at them. Apparently there are heaps of hidden meanings in them. I doubt a young child would get some, or any of them.
For example, in Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, the picture starts out quite tiny in the book and doesn't fill up the page, but as Max gets deeper into his imagination, and the other world, the picture fills up the entire page. I just thought that was pretty neat.
