Does satan know our thoughts?

Does the devil know your thoughts? Is he everywhere at once?

Thanks to BonniBee for this poll suggestion

I lean towards "no" since G-d is omnipotent and Satan is only a fallen angel.

I said "I don't know" because I wonder if those in the spiritual realm, like Satan, have more insight into our thoughts and motivations than we do.

Otherwise, how else would they truly tempt us, if they did not have a "closer look" into our beings so-to-speak...?

just thoughts. not sure

I would say no in the sense Satan cannot know your thoughts without it being revealed to him.

Satan and people in general cannot know your own personal inner thoughts, but they notice where your heart is at by what you look at; by how you react; by what you speak; by what you read; by what you write; by what you listen to, etc.

The only way another individual can know what another person's exact thoughts are is if the person reveals truthfully what his/her thoughts are, or by God Almighty giving revelation of another's thoughts; otherwise, a person can only guestimate the thoughts of another by observing verbal and non-verbal expressions and gestures.

The following is a post I had made to another thread which also applies here:

I want to help the best way I can, so know that I am responding with a gentle spirit, a loving attitude, and a pleasant tone.

Many Christians have struggled with these thoughts at one time or another.

A person who does not believe and accept Christ as personal Lord and Savior remains spiritually dead. The minds of the unsaved are at enmity with God and follow in the ways of the ungodly which are greatly influenced by Satan.

There exists a Holy and honest Almighty God Who simultaneously knows all thoughts and everything about all that exists (omniscient), has the ability to do everything without limitations (omnipotent), and can go anywhere and be present to all simultaneously (omnipresent).

There also exists a created being by the name of Lucifer (a.k.a. Satan, Devil, Serpent, etc.) who, by own will, is dishonest, hateful, and impure; who does not know all things; who does not know what another person thinks to oneself within the mind; whose power is limited to do certain things; and who cannot be present to all simultaneously.

There are others throughout the world who thinks Satan is speaking to them at the very same moment you think Satan is speaking to you. Since Satan cannot simultaneously speak to everyone within their own minds at the same time, it is impossible for him to be the one who is making up the thoughts for many at the same moment. Satan and people in general cannot know your own personal inner thoughts, but they notice where your heart is at by what you look at; by how you react; by what you speak; by what you read; by what you write; by what you listen to, etc. Satan’s idea of rebelling against God’s ways does circulate throughout the world and influence others through various forms of media, education, speeches, entertainment, etc.

External images, words, smells, sounds, etc. may appeal to specific desires you have within yourself and begin to be entertained by your mind. Internal emotions and memories may provoke your mind. The ability of your carnal mind to creatively imagine something may also produce ungodly thoughts and actions.

The mind may entertain thoughts that cause doubt about God and one’s relationship in Christ. Lacking knowledge and trust of Scriptures presents a perfect breeding ground for doubt. Doubt can be removed by obtaining knowledge from and believing in God’s Word that refutes (proves to be erroneous) the thought causing doubt. Feelings do not accurately determine if you are in Christ or not because they do not remain consistent with knowledgeable facts from the Scriptures. God’s Word is the standard by which thoughts are to be compared with for assurance. A Christian’s thoughts are to line up with God’s Word and not according to feelings or the world’s standards. For example, if you have thoughts that question whether you’re a Christian or not, look up the Scriptures that state how one is saved in Christ. If you did according to the Scriptures, then you are a Christian (a person trusting in Christ for salvation).

If you question your love for God, examine different areas of your life. Do you obey His teachings at all? Remember, this does not mean that you will never sin or fail at times; however, do not use your imperfection as an excuse to “purposely” continue in disobedience. Acknowledge and confess your error before God. Trusting God will help you, make earnest efforts to change.

Having others as a scapegoat will never excuse a person of accountability and responsibility for personal choices and actions. Anyone who wrongs another will be held accountable for his/her own actions. The offended person may suffer wrongly in many ways resulting from the unloving actions by another. Keep in mind that God graciously and mercifully forgives you of all your wrongs and suffered to redeem you; therefore, as painful as it may be, you must be gracious and merciful towards others. Your act of love will prevent many acts of sins from within self. Also keep in mind, especially during those excruciating moments, that God without pretense greatly loves you. Satan, Adam, and Eve played “pass the buck” but God held each one accountable for his/her personal choices with consequences.

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 10:5 “…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” When a thought comes to mind whether it is from oneself or an external source, stop it dead in its tracks. Become aware of what you’re thinking. Question the thought and bring it to discussion with God. Seek Scriptures regarding the topic of the thought, and if you need assistance, use a concordance or confide in a discreet and faithful Christian. Paul wrote in Romans 12:2 “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” If Scripture does not support the thought in question, believe the Scripture and refuse to accept and believe the infiltrating and invasive thought. Believe, accept, and apply what Scripture teaches. Thank God for revealing the truth and helping you live victoriously in Christ.

There are other specific examples I can illustrate by Scripture, but there is not enough room here to continue.

In light of the information you’re seeking through your questions, I hope these comments are helpful to you.

Sincerely,
ambassador4Christ

Satan knows how people think and he knows the weakness of human beings. This is how hes able to tempt us. He does not know our inner thoughts: otherwise, he would not have wasted his time tempting Job [Job 1:6-12], or Jesus (when He was a man) [Matthew 4:1-11]. Satan has the power to deceive those who do not follow God:

"The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." (Revelation 12:9, NIV)

Satan was brought under the power and authority of Jesus when He died for our sins and established His Kingdom and His church. Satan no longer has power over us and by this, we can be sure that the devil, Satan, cannot read our thoughts. [Revelation 12:7-17]

Wow, awesome article!!
I agree, Satan analyses our actions and words etc, and realises he can or can't get at us by putting un Christlike thoughts into our minds.
