themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their
wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their

Assemblies of God, which has similor beliefs, grew out of Pentecostalism in 1914 in Hot Springs, Az.
Another similar group, Four-square Gospel, was started by Aimee Semple McPherson in L.A. in 1917.

That's about all I know of them.

-In Dec. 1900
-Around the stroke of midnight Dec. 31st 1900 a young woman by the name of Agnus Ozman began to speak words that people did not understand.
-Speaking in tongues must be the evidence that someone has received the Spirit.

A. Charles Fox Parham (1873-1929)—the first rumblings in Topeka
-teaching at a holiness college in Houston, Texas
-he was teaching on his bible study and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit along with the speaking in tongues
-The most fundamental teaching of the Pentacostal movement is Spirit Baptism with the initial evidence of tongues after salvation.

B. William Seymour (1870-1922) and Azusa Street
- There was a black man that was sitting outside in the hallway listening to the lectures
oThe man’s name was William Seymour
oAbout midway through the semester, Seymour is invited to come to Los Angeles
oIt is an integrated church and they want Seymour to come and be one of the pastors
oThis is in April of 1906
oAfter a few days he breaks out in tongues
oSoon other people begin speaking in tongues
oThey soon move to a building on Azusa St.; it will become known as the Azusa st. revival
oPeople begin coming from everywhere
-E.N. Bell became the first supertendent of the Assembly of God

-there was the Church of God Pentecostal in Clevelend Tn
-they split and form the Church of God of Prophecy
-The Church of God in Christ is a predominately black Pentecostal religion
There is the spread of Pentecostal denominations which begin to pop up all across the nation.*

The Montanists in the second century had many similarities to modern Pentecostals.

Yet they also had many differences.

I think Wesley and later the 19th century holiness movenment are the roots Pentecostalism grew from.
