Kiss Is Chess Gambling?

Hi everyone, I was just curious....Would God consider playing Chess gambling? My logic would say "No" and I will tell you why (IMHO) it's not. Gambling is when you bet money on the results of an event or to put in money to win in a tournament. So, to me... Horse Racing, Poker, dice, and dare I say.... Bingo at the local Church auxillary is considered Gambling. But chess? Now, I have never played in a Chess Tournament... I plan to some day, but I know that there is an entrance fee. The majority of fees goes to buying new chess sets, administration fees and just helping the club grow...advertisement or whatever. I am guessing a small portion actually goes to the winner/winners of the tournament; whether that be in cash or trophies. Keep in mind, I am refering to an amateur tourney. So, what do you think? All opinions are welcome, especially from any clergy out there Thanks...Pure

No. My personal definition on gambeling is where you have the potental to gain money or goods if you are lucky. There is very little luck in chess.

No, it's only gambling if you're betting for money or other "material" things

No, chess is not gambling. And in order to play in a tourney of any type (like sports, too), there is always some fee involved, but that's just a fee.

there are many veiws on gambling. Only one matters, the Bible. What is your reason for wanting to enter a tounament? If it's to say your #1 or something that mite be an indicator that will help you decide. No matter what, remember the Bible has the answer

LoL... The wikipedia defines Gambling (or betting) as any behavior involving risking money or valuables (making a wager or placing a stake) on the outcome of a game, contest, or other event in which the outcome of that activity depends partially or totally upon chance or upon one's ability to do something. So it's safe to play chess unless u place a bet of some sort on it... as stated above...

I agree with just about everyone else. Chess tournaments are not gambling, they are just competitions.
