Name: Edric, son of Sighild

Description: Edric stands just over six feet, with a well-muscled build. His hair is a very light shade of blonde, and he wears it long, just past his broad, heavy-looking shoulders. His skin is light, face sparsely freckled,. His eyes, in contrast, are very dark, but they often flash with his emotions, be it pride, anger, or excitement. Usually he wears leggings (or trousers? Pants in any case) and a tunic that leaves his arms bare. But if there’s a chance of fighting, he’ll wear chainmail and steel-backed gauntlets. Primary weapons include shortbow, longsword, and the indispensable hidden dagger or two.

Personality: He is a Hillsman; therefore proud and fiercely loyal. This is sometimes offset by a certain boyish uncertainty, which he works very hard to conceal.

Background: Edric comes from a clan of semi-nomadic people who live in the hills. His father Sighild is the clan chieftain. It was the custom for chieftain’s sons to stay with their fathers and learn leadership until they became chieftain themselves, But Sighild, though he wwas a great leader, was lame in one leg and could not ride a horse well. He did not want his son’s free spirit tempered by having to stay with a crippled old man. So when Edric was eighteen, Sighild made him a deal. He could ride where he wished, as far as he wished, but he must swear that on the day his father died, he would return to lead the clan.

Edric took the oath, and for seven years he’s wandered the countryside, doing what he likes best, galloping free under an open sky, with the wind in his face. Only recently has he started service as a messenger and scout for the royal military, using his knowledge of the land to good advantage.

Description: A remarkable horse, built for speed and long running, Windmane stands fifteen hands (60 inches) at the shoulder. Her flesh is grey, silver when wet, and her mane is white and tends to grow tangled. Her build s powerful, but her eyes are brown and gentle.

Personality: She’s quiet, shy even, but inside she’s as tough as her rider. She also has a surprisingly keen eye for handsome stallions (nothing dirty, mind).
