Reps: 795 (power: 0) | | | Healthy meatloaf I love meatloaf, and made up a great recipe. I just used a packet of meatloaf seasoning, but I substituted ground turkey instead of beef, cooked wild rice (from a can and drained first) instead of bread crumbs, and egg whites instead of whole eggs. I covered the top with tomato sauce. I did not cook it in a traditional meatloaf pan. Instead, I shaped in into a loaf, and placed it on a broiler pan, so it wouldn't be swimming in grease, allowing the fat to drain out. I covered it in foil for the first half of the cooking time, then took it off. It was a real hit, and I was asked to make it again. hehe. |

I've tried using ground turkey in my spaghetti sauces and several other things as a substitute for ground beef, but didn't really like the taste of the ground turkey. Did the meatloaf seasoning make the ground turkey have a more beefy flavor? My husband and I both love meatloaf but gave up read meat several years ago, so this would be quite a treat for us.

I usually put zuchinni, onion, red, yellow, green, and red peppers, carrots, and sometimes frozen chopped and drained spinach! the kids like it.
Also you can make meatloaf "muffins" using a muffin tin. If you have a mini muffin pan that is a really easy way to make meatballs! LOL!!!

I would hide veggies in mine, too, but I would shred the veggies instead of dice them. Less noticable to the kids. They also liked it when it topped it with BBQ sauce, instead of tomato sauce. |

Yes, it did. I suppose you could even add a packet of beef soup mix, instead. The flavor of the wild rice is so distinct, that it's the first taste you notice, anyway. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
