Death to tanning beds. -_- Pale skin is just as pretty?

I grew up in California, where tan skin is idolized. I tried lying in the sun to get that golden look, but I would just come back looking like a lobster. Some girls even look completely orange instead of golden brown. o_O I felt frustrated because I couldn't fit into this standard of beauty that makes girls and women lightly toast the itside layer of their skin to be accepted for beauty.

This is me:

As you can tell, getting a tan would probably make me...explode. I no longer feel like I have to damage my skin and I will thank myself in 10 years! Natural skin coloring is always the prettiest, you don't have to put chemicals on your skin. Light or pale skin is just as pretty as golden brown or olive skin!

FACT: Did you know that it only takes five minutes under the UV lights of a tanning bed for it to DAMAGE your DNA? Even if you don't get a burn. Sun tanning can also cause premature aging. It breaks down your collagen barrier which causes wrinkles and your pores to enlarge.

Anyone else with light or extremely pale skin go through this ordeal and decide tanning for beauty wasn't worth it?

Oh yes. I had a few burns in my childhood. Only when you are older do you realize it was bad for you. Now I examine myself for unusual spots; I'm going to a dr. for a black freckle I have.
Thankfully, I never overdid it, though I used tanning beds for awhile for the reason that bees can't bother you there.

I'm olive skinned but I still do not want the sun damaging my skin. Our earth is changing as rapidly as ever.Skin cancer in Utah is high.

Back when I was little, people didn't think it was bad. Knowledge increases, as the bible says.
We had a neighbor who laid out often, with oil and a reflector. He is about 60+ now, and still as white as ever.

I don't care much for the tan look. My mom wants me to go to the tanning bed, but uhh....no! lol Those things scare me, the only tan I get is my arm that faces the window in a car lol.

Wow, stargoddess, you're so pale! You're beautiful, I loooove pale skin, it's so delicate and feminine.
I have pale skin too, I also tried sitting in the sun -it's not worth it! I have a lot of freckles from that, but they are fading.
I wear sunscreen every day, even in the middle of winter. I just burn so easily! I hope you wear sunscreen every day too, you'll have less wrinkles than every one else when you're old hehe

As I've gotten older, I care less and less about how tan I am. I do like to get a little sun in the summer (as it helps my complexion), but that's about it.

I have light skin and everytime I would try to tan I would end up beat red with blisters all over my skin so I gave up. I heard tanning can give you wrinkles later on down the road.....
