Jeremy ate some and according to him red doesn't taste better than white.
Oh you can take his handprint and bake it and keep it, that's really cool. Just do it thin so it'll bake all the way through. |

Modelling clay stains their fingers horribly (I'm not sure if it will wash out, but I would want to chance it) and it's a lot stickier than Play Doh. The coolest stuff, I think, is Model Magic...it has a slightly different texture (lighter, more airy than Play Doh), but it doesn't stick to carpets nearly as much.

I hear ya! For now I plan on only allowing him to play with it while seating at the table in the kitchen That's where we color too.... I dunno... maybe I am paranoid, but I just KNOW the moment I leave him alone with a crayon the next I will have to clean all the walls from his creative genius

My seven year old is just now playing with the clay we bought him a couple years ago. Up until now, he's preferred the easier-to-manipulate playdoh.
Along the same lines, we did watercolors today for the first time with my two year old. She loved it. Fortunately they were washable because she apparently wanted to see what she'd look like with a pink belly button

Magic erasers work wonders with crayon and marker marks.

Yeah, I know. I bought one because I tried vinagar and water and it took some paint with it. |

Reps: 10,283 (power: 18) | | LOL - the first thing I thought when I read your post was "make your own play doh", looks like I wasn't alone!
It's really easy and you can find a recipe on the internet.
It's cheaper (not that play doh is so expensive, but cheaper means drying out isn't such a big deal) and you can keep it in zip locks.
I stay away from the modeling clay. It's oily. It smears into stuff, it's a pain to clean up.
The play doh is really easy to clean up, especially if the little pieces dry a little, you just sweep it up.....
LOL - have fun! We just exposed my 2 year old to painting this week, he was fearfully intrigued. He likes the "idea" of these messy things, but reality is, he can't stand a mess on his hands. It makes him really uptight. He tried it, but I had to keep wiping his hands with a wipe. Same with the play doh. It's fun anyway.
