Reps: 13 (power: 0) | | | What is so hard about the Golden Rule? Is there anything Jesus commanded us more simple and easy to understand than the Golden Rule? Someone please tell me what is more simple? What part of it is hard to understand?
I can see why some non Christians might choose to not understand it, but why would anyone professing to be a Christian choose to ignore this clear command from Christ?
When Peter took His eyes off Christ he began to sink. But he learned a valuable lesson from it. Why are we unwilling to do the same?
Why do we not treat our brothers/sisters the way we want to be treated?

It really does bother me when someone calls themself a Christian, but then can't live up to it. I find more and more (some) Christians are not out spreading the word, but out judging and condeming others.
Hate the sin love, your brothers/sisters.

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | Golden Rule [COLOR=darkblue]I believe that many find it difficult to follow the Golden Rule because their minds are still, although in part, still following a world systems that looks out for number 1.
There is always a war that wages between the flesh and the spirit. When we totaly surrender to God and are willing to die to ourselves and our own insecurities, then the mind of Christ prevails.
The world tells us to defend ourselves and not turn the other cheek. The Word tells us different.
Striking back is due to our own insecurities. The believer needs to step up in God and stop feeling sorry for himself/herself. Put our trust in God and believe that God knows what's best for us. Be willing to love that person who offends us. Be willing to put ourselves in a vulnerable position.
The person who strikes back needs a transformation of their heart. Their hearts need to be turned around and allow Christ to do the work. It's not the offender who is the problem, but the one who is being offended and wants to retaliate. |

Perhaps as Frank Burns might say: It is easy to be loving to the loving, but not so easy to be loving to people who are trying to make you look bad.
We are actually to be a clay vessel, so that God can fill us up with His divine love and then we can pour God's love and His blessing out on them.
Usually what gets in the way of us doing what Jesus is calling us to do, is SELF. We just do not want to die to self. We would rather pamper self.
How often have we said: OH Jesus your so wonderful, and I love you so. I will go wherever you want me to go, do whatever you want me to do, and be whoever you want me to be. He will answer, now we are getting somewhere, lets start off with a three day fast. Gulp, you mean you want me to make sacrifices? You want me to give things up? Of course give things up, so He can fill us with His goodness.
Even if we were to be perfected in God's love. If we were willing to go anywhere and do anything to help out a fellow Christian. We are still just a vessel of clay and have limits. Jesus can just do so much more than we can.
I think Mother Tersea's challange still rings true today. We need to get out and love the least of the least and the poorest of the poor. Of course that does not mean we do not love rich people also, because sometimes they are the poorest of the poor.
Even if we were to be the most loving people in all the world. We can not set ourselves up, so people tell us that we are so wonderful because we are so loving. Rather, we need to put Jesus center stage. We should lift Him up, so that He is able to draw people onto Himself. We do not want people to focus on us, we want them to look to Jesus.
That is all I can think of for now. Thanks, JohnR7 |

Reps: 11 (power: 0) | | | There is always one old hymn that saids so much to me.
I was walking round the farm trying to hold on to my peace after
a offense. And the Lord said so clearly this old hymn.
Forget about yourself and concentrate on him and worship him.
Christ the Lord.
And when your worshipping the Lord all your hurts, troubles fall away.
Because their is one who will never fail us. He is always loyal, faithful and will always do us good and never harm or hurt us. And when you have the security of how much God loves us what does it matter what somebody else does or says.

It kind of reminds me of a parable Jesus told of a man who was in debt, and could not pay it off, he begged to get out of it, and the guy was mercifull enough to do it, but when it was him being owe he demanded to be paid.

You are exactly right, but I think what you have so correctly pointed out is the result of ignoring the Golden Rule, rather than the cause of it.

I think sometimes we're more easily persuaded than is good for us.
We have our limitations, and we're capable of "losing oureselves".
