Kim Tumone took a deep breath of Chicago air as she stepped off the plane. It felt good to be back home; her grandparents lived in a very cute town, but it was too slow for Kim, and she had spent much of her visit missing the big city. As she walked over to pick up her luggage, she started feeling that something was wrong. At first she couldn't figure out what it was, then it hit her; the breeze that was threatening to make a mess of her hair wasn't affecting anyone else. She didn't see anyone else's hair flying in different directions. Then with a big gust of wind she realized something else; there shouldn't have been a breeze in the building in the first place. And shouldn't those people be walking more slowly; it looks like someone pushed a fast foward button... The wind began roaring in her ears as it blew harder and harder. She closed her eyes hoping that things would be back to normal when she opened them, but they weren't. There were trees when she opened her eyes, and the trees seemed to come into focus, while the people and the airport faded away. Okay, that's it. I'm calling the doctor; I have got to have some serious sickness. She reached into her purse for her cell phone, but the cell phone wasn't there, and then her purse wasn't there either. When she looked up, all she could see were the trees. "Help me! I'm sick; all I can see is trees." she screamed, hoping that she was hallucinating, and someone in the airport could hear her.

((Sorry, I changed his name ))

Dune Ross stretched and yawned in the chair as the plane landed. That conference had been an utter waste of time. He knew how to do his job and could do it well. Sending him had just been a waste of money- even if he had enjoyed the vacation part of it.

He blinked and then widened his green eyes, trying to wake himself up. Get your baggage, call mother, drive home and then you can sleep to your heart's content. Dune nodded to himself, his ponytail hitting the back of his neck as he did so. Slinging his pack over his shoulder, he stepped out of the plane and into O'Hare.

It was as busy as always. A group of noisy punks pushed past him, making him stumble slightly. He didn't mind. That was the big city for ya. He only had one small suitcase, so that took no time at all. The call to his mother, on the other hand, was a different story. She wanted to know how his flight was, how the hotel was, how the conference was, how the flight back was, and- most important of all- whether he had met a girl there.

It had taken him a good ten minutes to first assure her there hadn't been a girl, and then another five to console his distraught mother. And he only got off so easily because he had a person behind him waiting for the phone.

"Have to go, Mother. Talk to you later. Good bye." Dune quickly hung up before she could utter another word. He loved his mother, truly he did, but she was a little too marriage-obsessed for his taste. Honestly, I'm only 26. One would think my foot was halfway in the grave already or something.

Still shaking his head over his mother, Dune pushed open the glass doors and headed to find his car. He was hit by a gust of wind that nearly sent him spiralling back against the door. "Holy cow!" He roared, his words snatched away by the wind so they didn't even reach his own ears. It almost felt like monstrous hands grabbing him, crushing him, spinning him around and around until he felt like he was on a Tilt-A-Whirl at a carnival. His stomach was quickly reminding him how poorly he did on those things.

"Somebody heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!" Dune screamed, realizing it was hopeless that someone should hear him but trying even still. And then suddenly, he could hear himself. Not only that, but he had stopped spinning. He opened his eyes, blinking several times to try and relieve the dryness.

And then he saw them. Trees! Enormous trees, towering over his head and into the sky. Dune stood in shock, his mouth hanging open.

In one corner of the bustling airport, a lone girl was silently observing everything around her. Her long legs were propped up lazily on an overturned, expensive suitcase; her tight silk slacks and black tailored blazer hinted at her opulence. Hazel eyes, set deeply in a narrow face with high cheekbones, added a glint of beauty to her dismal expression. Her long brown hair had streaks of black dyed in it, her eyes were lined heavily with black makeup, and she was wearing a spiked necklace that appeared to be derived from a dog collar.

Whitney Hadgerbergen had one love in life: her chihuahuas. To everyone else, her esteemed pups looked like skinned, pampered rats decked out in outrageous little specially-tailored suits. To Whitney, the chihuahuas represented all that was good to her. She heaved a sigh, twirling a strand of brown hair around one slender finger. Snuggles and Cutie, as she had named them when she was nine, had been her last present from her deceased mother. In a way, the little rat dogs made up for what love her broken family had never given her.

Her family...Whitney heaved another heavy sigh. That was another story altogether. A story that led to her not being able to face her father another second. The coward. she thought spitefully. He never could face me after Mom died...face a sad nine-year-old girl! All I ever wanted was his love...and now he'll be forced to love me when he found out what I did. Whitney was a very unique person. When the idea of running from her life had presented itself, she decided she could not just pack her bags and leave. Instead, she had typed up a ransom note, cut herself and left her blood on her bed, jumped out the window, and faked her own kidnapping. Her father would be furious; at least he would be forced to pay some attention to her!!

Whitney yawned and ran her hand over Cutie's silk suit. "You look so adorable!" she cooed, offering the obese chihuahua another specially baked ginger treat. "I simply cannot have you getting plane sickness." she said firmly. "And it will be a long flight to South Africa." She had no chance to croon anymore; she heard a lady's voice announce that her flight was leaving. She bent and stuffed her dogs into their padded carriers, strapped her backpack on her back, and grabbed her duffel bag. Looking around with satisfaction, she began to make her way through the waiting area to the ticket line.

Just then, she heard a little yelp, and looked down to see Cutie's carrying case open. "Cutie!" she cried in distress. "Come back!" The little dog paid her no heed, and went sprinting on its stubby legs out the nearest door.

"Cutie!" Whitney yelled again. She dropped her bags and struggled to keep up with the little animal. Finally, Cutie stopped near the rental car pickup area, and she bent to pick him up with relief. No sooner had the wayward chihuahua been tucked safely into his carrying case when a strong wind began to blow. Whitney pulled her hair out of her eyes and began to make her way back into the terminal.

Halfway back, another gust stopped her. She struggled against the sudden, fearsome wind, holding on to Snuggles and Cutie's cases with all her might. She screamed to a rental car attendant next to her, "Is there a tornado or something?!" The man ignored her. Whitney immediately went into a rage and stomped her foot emphatically. "Tell me now!" she yelled above the howling gusts. "Is there a tor-" She screamed suddenly as the wind grew so strong that it took her breath away.

Then, everything around her began to disappear. She supposed it was dust, kicked up by the wind, and so she covered her nose with her hands. Looking down at the ground, she suddenly realized that the dust was infecting her more than she thought. For some reason, the grey cement underneath her appeared to be turning green, almost like...grass.

Whitney bumped into something solid, and she looked up. She was standing at the base of a large tree. "A tree?!" she gasped, her breath snatched from her throat. "Why is there a tree in the airport terminal?!" She looked around and realized that this wasn't the only tree; there were lots of trees. She was in a forest! "Oh, my gosh." she muttered, turning white and stumbling backwards. "This can't be happening! Oh my goodness...oh my goodness...OH MY GOODNESS!!"

"Aw great, its spreading." Gary grumbled under his breath as he heard other people shouting like maniacs. He sighed and reached into his tool belt and produced a heavily constructed plumber's wrench, which had been bought and repaired countless times by his father. It still had the name Nino Ricodelli engraved in the handle, and had plenty of spots on it where the rust had refused to come off. Both Gary and his father had used it more times than anyone could count, and had also had to defend themselves with it. New York City was not the most friendly place, after all. And judging from the screams, neither was this... place. After following the nearest voice, he found a girl with two dog carrying cases in her hands. She was quite done up. Obviously some rich girl from a fancy neighborhood. Oh well, atleast she was crazy too. "Hey! 'Scuse me miss, but how'd you get out here?" he called over as he approached her slowly, putting his wrench back in his belt and not caring if she saw his Super Mario shirt. To be honest, he had only played a video game on a couple occasions in his life. Gary just thought Super Mario was a wonderful and creative character. And since he had often dreamt of saving princesses, an Italian Plumber who saved princesses for a living greatly appealed to him. "You know whats goin' on 'round here?"

Whitney whirled around, terror written on her face. "Who are you?" she shrieked. "And don't you know Super Mario shirts went out like ten years ago?! And you know I cannot understand New York accents, Mr. Wrench Carrier. Please repeat what you said, only slower this time." She considered breaking into screams again. Here she was, in the middle of some barbaric forest, with a weird guy in a completely not stylish shirt had appeared out of nowhere and was actually speaking to her! She didn't know whether the former or the latter was the worse. It wasn't that Whitney was actually mean at heart; she was just terrified out of what wits she possessed.

"Its a Christmas present from my mom and pop!" Gary protested fiercely. "I was off to visit them, but wham, bam, here I am in this forest!" he grunted quietly and glanced around through narrowed eyes, then gave an exasperated sigh and glanced at the ground. "'Name's Gary Ricodelli, not Mr. Wrench Carrier. And no, I didn't know you can't understand a New Yorker accent. Sorry if you're some kinda big celebrity... I don't watch much TV. Who are ya?" he did his best to try and slow his speech down a bit, in case the girl was serious, but it was hard when he was so nervous.

Martini didn't even notice the others, because she had just made a very startling and very upsetting discovery. But they were sure to notice her, because she had just uttered a screech that would have made Whitney proud. "MY IPOD!!!!!! IT'S GONE!!!!!" The woman began ripping through the grass and leaves, trying to find the precious, white treasure. She had to call the cops. She couldn't find it in this big forest without help! Martini reached for hre back pocket for her phone...

Another scream pierced the air. "MY PHONE!!" And then another. "MY WALLET!!!! I've been ROBBED!!!!!!!!" Now Martini usually wasn't a hyserical person, but she had just been robbed and dumped into a huge forest. And by what? A wind! Chicago's the Windy City, but this is ridiculous!

((Q: How will they actually meet Elrond and everyone? o.O What if they were nearly trampled by Arwen bringing Frodo into Rivendell!?))
