DNAunion:  There seem to be some real computer pros here, so what about a discussion dealing with security and the internet?

Your best virus security tip:
Don't download attached files from people you don't know, and even if you know the sender, ask them if they sent you the e-mail and attachment before you open it.

Don't open any weird looking things.

Stick with that and I think you're pretty good.

IF you are on a network, MAKE SURE you password protect your drives in some way... that way if a virus DOES get opened on another computer, it can't spread to yours (can't get through the password protection )

DNAunion: Okay.

What I had in mind was more along the lines of protecting your own network or PC from attacks launched from the Interent.

Topics such as remote packet sniffing, IP spoofing, DNA spoofing, DDoS, etc. I know a little about these things but was wanting to learn more.

 

PS:  Make that DNS spoofing, not DNA spoofing.  I guess I've typed "DNA" so many times the old fingers were just following their habit.

Real simple: Run unix.

Seriously, this deals with 99% of the stuff immediately.

You mean running a firewall? There are plenty available (software and hardware, commercial and free).
