Homosexuality Triggering HIV Escalation

Before you immediately dismiss this because of the source, it does quote the CDC.

WASHINGTON, November 18, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – While the rates for new cases of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, have been on the decline among heterosexuals and intravenous drug users, US health officials are expressing alarm at an eight percent increase in HIV rates in homosexual and bisexual men in one year.

Let's cut to the chase. Aside from the fact that this belongs in News and Current Events, the whole point of this thread is to stir up even more debate about how icky and disgusting and abominable homosexuals are. I mean, come on - that IS what this is going to turn into. I see how many different threads that list homosexuality as the main subject?? From how many angles can this subject be debated?

Funny how the article mentions:

In addition, the CDC reported that the majority of HIV infections in women were a result of what the organization terms “high risk” sexual behaviour, which includes sex with bisexual men, while an estimated 25% of persons living with HIV does not know they are infected.
Is everyone prepared to stone women equally as much for their sexual promiscuity?

HIV is a homosexual problem in America.
HIV is a IV drug problem in Russia.
HIV is a promiscuity problem in Brazil.
HIV is a multi-faceted problem in South Africa.

It's not strictly a gay thing.

edit: I should add that it's also a male prison problem in America

There's places outside of America? Tell me more of this 'world'.

In any case, it's true, homosexuality is not the only contributing factor linking to the spread of HIV. A broad range of problems are to blame for the rapid spread of the disease. Still, an interesting subject nonetheless.

Hmmm. I wonder if this could be at all related to the complete lack of information about safer sex practices that is now provided in many schools, as well as the enormous amount of hatred aimed at gay people, which can lead to engaging in self-destructive behavior (like unprotected and promiscuous sex)? Maybe if gay people were allowed to marry and settle down in monogamous lifelong partnerships that were recognized and validated by society, this kind of activity would be much less common.

Excellent point. It's very plausible that many gay men may feel so distraught by how the world treats them that they give up and decide to do something self-destructive because the pain that results wouldn't hurt as much as the condemnation that is heaped upon them by the church and other segments of society. As a gay man myself, I can truly relate to that.

Unfortunately attitudes have become a lot more lax over recent years as to safe sex. The lat eighties early ninties were a real scare period for AIDS.
Ironically, the improvements in treatment have caused people to become more lax and think that AIDS isn't the threat it used to be.

The problem here is not inherantly homosexual men having sex but the way they are doing it.

Heterosexuals can't even maintain a marriage, so what makes anyone else think that homosexuals will to. As for the sex education portion, I thought that was already taught in schools. Either way, any type of unprotected sex, multiple sex partners, and high risk behvior is going to cause more harm than good.

They can't even teach kids middle school math, and they should teach them about sex? O_o

As for marriage, why is it the government's business? It's just another excuse for them to manage and watch over my life, which happens to be none of their business, because I have not infringed on the rights of anyone else. Society and the government should not have anything to do with my marriage, because quite frankly, who I have sex with is none of their business.

I honestly don't care who they have sex with unless they come crying for government money, because they don't like the consequences of who they had sex with. Have all the gay sex you want. Just don't tell me about it (I have no interest in other people's sex lives).

As far as I know, there isn't really any law that prevents homosexuals from sharing an apartment, and living in a mutually monogamous relationship.
