Christ Christ leaving church?

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but hopefully it will work.

Can someone point me to scripture that talks about Christ leaving the church?

Someone was telling me about it, but I would like to read it myself.

I was under the impression that the church was the bride of christ. And the bible frowns upon divorce.

When you say "leaving the church" do you mean founding a Church while on earth before He ascended into Heaven or do you mean abandoning the Chruch?

Matt. 16:18 is where He founds His Church.
Matt. 28:20 says He won't abandon the Church.

One thing I have asked of the Lord, this will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. That I may see the delight of the Lord, and may visit his temple. (Psalm 26:4)

I'm talkin about the latter. We went thru a huge split at the church here, all of the "strong" Christians have left the church, and so has every staff person. I am confused and thought I would look this subject up in scripture.

Sorry . I edited my above post. In Matt. 28:20 He promises not to abandon us. Likewise, earlier, in Matt. 16:18 He promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against the Church.

What do you mean by strong Christians? What was the cause of the split?

It must be a very difficult time for you!

I didn't know which words to use describe the "good" Christians. I would call them devoted to Christ, farther along in their walk than most, able to feel the Holy Spirit. Not the ones that just go to church on Sunday because it looks good.

What caused the split: We had 6 people get together, invited a selected bunch of people, and addressed the Session (which I am a member of). They personally attacked every person on the staff which I would say are in the category of above mentioned. It was without a doubt the most vicious, evil thing I have ever witnessed. Their complaint was that we were to "Pentecostal". I have heard that "we should take care of our own, we shouldn't worried about others outside of the Church" from some of the members. If anyone of them have read the word, they should know that is not what God wants.

It may be the Holy Spirit that "leaves the church", or is not present. I am sure not feeling it like I used to.

Yes, this is a very difficult time for me.

I don't think so. the holy spirit is in individuals not corporate bodies. It is probably either the absense of the people strong in the spirit from a church will of course result in feeling the presence of God less in church, or that the spirit is telling you to leave too becasue you do not feel like you belong there.

If there are still Christians there is still the Spirit, it would not leave a church completely unless everyone there was apostate.

Think of the devout leaving a corrupt church as a sort of reverse excommunication.
