Hi. Anyone know anything about Theophostic Ministry?
A friend of mine is into it so I'd like to know more.
It is NOT theosophic but theophostic.
Thanks.
yes, I was getting ministry for 4 years and also ministering to others and when I started learning about the roots of Theophostic then learned it is occultic. I started looking into Theta Brain Healers and saw they were doing the same thing except they were using angels. What am I trying to say! Jesus that comes into a memory is not Jesus but it opens you up to spirit guides.
Yes, I meant Theophostics. I have done a lot of study and also studies of others. Any type of inner healing is not from the Lord. Jesus gives us many examples of ministry and the styles being taught today are not scriptural. I used to swear by it until the Lord had to show me the truth. Someone exposed it for what it is and so I went on a long journey about it. I studied a lot of inner healing technices and would lay my life on them until, through the Holy Spirit, showed me truth. Plus, I can go by my personal experience of what I had to get broken off of my life. Here is some information about Ed Smith's background and belief!
Ed Smith's background:
Dr. Ed Smith, is the founder of Theophostics. Ed Smith has 17 prior years of experience in psychological counseling. Ed Smith coined the name and this methodology that he has called "Theophostics" (i.e. "God"-"light"). Ed Smith says it was a direct revelation from God to him in 1996. The implication of this is that God waited nearly 2000 years while "hurting" people stumbled about in their emotional pain, waiting for Ed Smith's (or rather, God's) breakthrough in psychotherapy.
What is Psychotherapy? What is psychology about? It is the wisdom of man. The majority of psychology practitioners are godless atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, skeptics, and sexual perverts. Psychologists have used their godless imaginations, over the last century, to explain man's spirituality APART from God. Psychology is pseudo-science. As a professional engineer, I know the difference between pseudo-science and true science. I can only give an opinion on psychiatry as pseudo-medical practice.
The disguise of pseudo-science allows psychology to creep into the churches. Many have had consciences seared. The church has been enticed into man-centered, rather than Christ-centered teaching and counseling. Psychology is based on the foolish and vain inventions of secular mystics. It all started with the teachings of Sigmund Freud, just a century ago. Do any Christians know what a reprobate is? In a person it was Sigmund Freud.
But what does the bible say? " Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and VAIN deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." (Col 2:8).
The basis of psychology is AGAINST the Word of God. The basis of psychology is against the Bible regarding the total depravity, that fallen man must come to understand, to find the GRACE of God. Psychology opposes the hopelessness of every man’s sinful condition. Psychology sears the conscience regarding man’s desperate need for salvation.
What does Ed Smith Believe?
Ed Smith has "lie-based theology." The Bible has "sin-based theology." His basic premise, that man is good, and is a victim, is BIBLICALLY FLAWED. Ed Smith infers that "hurting" people must deal with their PAST "wounds." Ed Smith infers that the "sin-based theology" of the Bible is a legalistic effort of man to overcome sin through self-effort.
Lie-based theology" is then offered as the better alternative that says that sin is precluded by deception and at the heart of all sinful behavior in the Christian is a lie or deception. "I sin because I have been deceived."
Ed Smith’s Theophostics presupposes that we must go back in the PAST to find the "lie" that is hidden somewhere in the "dark room" of their deep subconscious. His technique then goes into his method to generate an altered state of consciousness. The client is to let their mind drift into the past, until the "lie" (which must be there, says theophostics) is discovered in a dark, hidden place. Then there's this "stirring up the darkness" where the client to is to focus on the "lie" and repeat it over and over, re-feeling and re-living the pain and emotions that are associated with it. Closing your eyes and going back into the memory causes your brain to go into Theta. Theta is what new agers like to get into a state of so that they can tap into psychic powers.
Ed Smith mixes his flawed theology with statements of orthodox Christian doctrine. A good false doctrine always does hide the error in a mix of truth. The sound biblical statements have the effect of disarming the student and convincing him that the method is "biblical." But the focus remains on the lie of "lie-based theology."
What is sin?
We need good preaching regarding sin. That is nearly impossible today, when the church does not know the DIFFERENCE between the LAW of Sin and Death, the LAW of Moses, and the ROYAL LAW of God.
The REAL Christ was crucified on a Roman cross for SINNERS, and ROSE again from the dead. Biblical Christianity has three elements - The Word of God; The Spirit of God; and the Regenerated Mind of Man.
Man is not a victim. Man is a SINNER. Fallen man has been deceived by the devil's evil plans. Yet, man is completely responsible and accountable for his sinful behavior. Excuses make you a worker of iniquity. Mat 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
True repentance and peace with God is not attainable through psychology. It will only make you FEEL good on your way to HELL. Is that MERCY? Is that LOVE? If it is, just call me "No Mercy Searcy."
How Theophostics works!
Theophostic counseling requires that a person go back in time to relive the trauma. Any uncovered 'memories' are relived in theophostic. Theophostic's founder, Dr. Ed Smith, claims "Theophostics" was a direct revelation given from God, to him, in 1996. Dr. Smith had 17 prior years of experience in psychological counseling. Did God allow hurting people to stay in their emotional pain, for thousands of years, waiting for Ed Smith's breakthrough in psychotherapy? Surely not. Dr. Ed Smith had no right adding his "revelation" to the Christian church. Jesus appearing to the client is the same as the New Age practice of channeling. If we can call Jesus into the memory why can't we call the Lord off the throne to heal us physically? Think about it.
Just going into a memory and reliving it brings fear into a person. It retraumatizes the person again. That is what it did to me. Trauma brings fear and fear is a spirit. It has to be on God's timing.
I have a whole lot more information on this subject so if you want more I can send you what I have on this forum.
Like I said! A year ago I would have fought and did fight with the best about Theophostics and would have defended it to the end. I wanted truth and seeked the Lord about it. I even studied under him and there were things that bothered me and I ignored it. I've set in when he has ministered to others. There were times the person needed to repent for unforgiveness and he would bypass it. I had to see where Ed Smith came from what he believed and so on. I believed in it and thought I was getting better myself but I wasn't. I went to someone that studied under Ed Smith since 1996 when it all started. This person came very high recommended. I was deceived and didn't even know it.
Thanks. I dont share your suspicion of psychology. Hence I am open to possibilities. I dont know enough about theophosic stuff so I wont defend it. Some of my overseas friends are involved with that.
I am involved in inner healing and I have no problems with using psychology in that service. More into WHOLENESS THROUGH CHRIST, ELLEL MINISTRIES, NEIL ANDERSON type of school....
I don't know where WhiteDove's information comes from, but it is highly inaccurate. Wrong in almost every detail.
Theophostic Prayer Ministry is not a new revelation to Ed Smith; the basic principles of it have been around at least 2,000 years, because they come straight out of the Bible.
TPM is *not* psychology. It is *not* counselling. It is *not* guided imagery, New Age, or Occultic. It is prayer, and it is God answering prayer directly.
Ed Smith will be the first one to tell you that God doesn't need to use Theophostic Ministry to heal people. He'll be the first to tell you that it's not psychology, too, even though that's where his background is--he discovered Theophostic because Psychology wasn't working! He'll tell you that Theophostic is what happens when the psychologist gets completely out of the way and lets the Lord come in and do things His way instead of our way.
I highly recommend finding out more about it from the theophostic website. I can't post the link here yet, because I'm still new, but feel free to PM me for it if you wish. If you're interested, then order his book, "Healing Life's Hurts" and see for yourself what Ed Smith has to say, and that it is, in fact, based in scripture.
I've got some personal experience with this ministry, and would be happy to talk about what the Lord has done for me using it if you'd like. I can put you in touch with others whom God has healed with it, as well. Let me know!
I was the same way you were. I defended it to the max until I did some extensive research and saw that the new agers healing model is the same except that they use angels instead of the Lord. I still defended it until I went to the Lord and the Lord showed me truth over the matter and I even argued with the Lord about it because I saw people get better with Theophostics. The fact is satan heals today too.
I studied Theophostics for 4 years and have all his material. I've even sat under Ed Smith's teaching and seen him minister to many. I got ministry through Theophostics and ministered to many others. I'm also an ordained minister in counseling and have worked with many people. Yes, I even have the book you mentioned.
So, I truly understand how you feel because I was once in your shoes. This is deceptive times and that is why the word of God is so very important to compare things too. Jesus didn't do inner healing and he did deliverance. He sent his deciples out two by two and they did deliverance not inner healing. So, all I can say to you is seek God, and research it out yourself. I did hours of research as well as hours spending time with the Lord seeking for his truth.
All I can say is thank you for sharing your feelings and I know exactly how you feel. Blessings to you and hopefully you will truly research and seek the Lord and compare it to the word of God. The truth will set you free. If I'm wrong, then I will the the first to admit it.
Blessings and peace to you.

Reason: Wanted to add more to my comments
Considering that the devil is the "Father of Lies," it's not surprising that we are deceived so much. I wouldn't call it lie-based theology at all. It's lie-based woundedness. It's Bible-based theology.
Also, I have seen many people go through TPM and come out healed, spiritually renewed, and praising God--closer to Him than ever before, and giving Him all the glory for their healing. This is not consistant with the idea that it's the devil that's healing them -- why would the devil want people to get closer to God? To tell people about God's amazing power and love?
The Bible says that we shall be known by our fruits. On the basis of this--what I have seen, the differences in people's lives before and after Theophostic--even if I knew nothing about Theophostic at all, I would still know it was from God.
It doesn't make sense that we would ask the Lord for truth and healing (asking our Father for a fish) and He would not only deny us but allow us to be further deceived instead (giving us a snake). Either God answers prayers, heals us, and shows us truth when we ask him (and every "truth" received in Theophostic is tested against scripture, or else the session isn't over)... OR He doesn't answer our prayers, we have no authority in Christ, and he gives us snakes when we ask him for fish, stones when we ask him for bread.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Theophostic Prayer... but God's truth has nothing to do with the occult, spirit guides, or anything like that. It's sad that you would seek to discredit the entire ministry based on things that have nothing to do with it.
Hi
I remember Colin Urqhart writing a book a little while back emphasising the truth of the Word of God, and in a way countering councelling etc. If you are reading this Colin, I apologise if I misrepresent you. It was the truth of the Gospel that set me free from emotional abuse as a child, and manic depression. I am repeatedly told in scripture to look away from myself and to begin to renew my mind to the new reality that I am in Christ. It is my new identity that sets me free from past stuff, in fact I can't give my testimony of salvation anymore as I can't remember what I was like before I was found by Jesus.
Bless you,
Denis.
I think there are at least two schools of thought:
1. everything is 'under the Blood'- ie when one comes to Christ, all things from the past are IMMEDIATELY cleared off and we are to walk free and can be free.
2. while objectively we are free in Christ, subjectively we have not fully claimed the freedom and we need to do that step by step....ie it is a process. Like Lazarus who came out of the tomb: he was alive but he was still in his graveclothes and needed to be freed from those.
To those who hold to #1, what is past is past. Why dig, why look, why bother? Live free.
But life isnt the same for everyone. There are those (most actually) who need time to walk out of their addictions, their fears, traumas, anxieties etc....Truely He 'breaks the power of cancelled sin' (cancelled sin still has power to hold us) -cf Charles Wesley's hymn- in the process of sanctification. In any case, 2 Cor 5:17 doesnt say 'all things are become new' in Greek. It says 'all things are BECOMING NEW'. So it might take time. Salvation is God's healing process...making us whole because sin is the sickness we are all plagued with in the first place.
