Avatar: The Last Airbender Main characters

Aang (The Avatar) -

Every time an avatar, master of all four elements, dies they are reincarnated into the next elemental clan. Aang is the next avatar up and was reincarnated as a air bender, an elemental tribe that has died out since Aang was stuck in the iceberg in which he was imprisoned for 100 years. Aang awoke to a world ravaged and torn with war. Aang's destiny as the new Avatar is to end the war led by the fire-nation and restore order. Unfortunately, Aang is only a 12-year-old kid and has not yet learned to master the other three elements. Aang must find a way to learn Waterbending, Earthbending and Firebending, within the year and become the master of all four elements, and stop the Fire Nation from harnessing the power of a comet to lead the final attack. Not to mention Aang is extremely mischevious, and it probably has nothing to do with him being a child. He has a tendency to get into bad situations, but lucky for him and his friends, he's also good at getting out of them. He has a lemur for a pet and is a vegetarian.

Katara -

is a 14-year-old Waterbender who, along with her brother, found Aang in an iceberg. Having lost her mother in a Fire Nation raid and with her father in the war, Katara is mature beyond her age and determined to end the war--or at least never stop trying. Being the only surviving Waterbender of her tribe, Katara has no one to teach her how to waterbend. Katara practices rudimentary waterbending on her own every day and longs to find a master Waterbender to teach her, so she can live up to her potential and become a great Waterbender in order to save her tribe. Katara is the self-appointed caretaker of the young Avatar and the leader of the group--not the mention the older girl who has become Aang's crush. Although Katara is wise for her age, she doesn't know everything. Recently, It's been revealed that Katara will learn of an untapped power she has(hinted at in the first episode). This has led to some speculation by fans that Katara is/was supposed to be the next incarnation of the Avatar after Aang.

Sokka -

is Katara's 15-year-old warrior brother. Sokka is loyal, courageous, proud, headstrong, and very protective of his sister. Yet, he's also very clueless, and doesn't trust "magic" (his word for bending). He prefers to use strength, determination, ingenuity and his boomerang (given to him by his father) to get out of troubles. Sokka claims he is stronger than any woman and he can't be beaten but is proven wrong when he and the others are captured by a group of women. He challenges the leader of the group, who appears to be no more than fiteen herself, and looses miserabley, so he comes back later and asks to be trained. They train him and make him wear the traditional dress.

Prince Zuko -

is a disgraced 16-year-old prince of the Fire Nation. When the story begins, he has been banished and is never allowed to return home unless he can fulfill a seemingly impossible mission: find and capture the Avatar. (Of course, no one has anticipated the lost Avatar would ever return, so Zuko's banishment was intended to be permanent.) His crime? Speaking out against a general who planned to allow hundreds of young men to needlessly die in battle! His father took offense to that and decided to personally duel him in the Fire Duel, Agni Kai. When Zuko saw who he would be dueling, he fell to his knees and begged for mercy. He refused to fight his own father and for his perceived cowardice, was given a horrible scar on his face, stretching back over his ear, before being banished. During his two years in exile, he has trained himself to become a powerful Firebender. Focused, driven, intelligent and honorable, but very bitter, Zuko is obsessed with what he believes is his destiny: capturing the Avatar, in order to redeem his honor and be accepted back by his father, the Fire Lord Ozai. Zuko is desperate to regain his throne, but also is learning that there are more important things, such as the safety of his uncle and his crew. It has been confirmed that Zuko has a younger sister, as seen in the memories of a little girl running with him. Her name is Zula and she is the girl smiling at Zuko's punishment. (Some things must have happened between them because one moment they were playing so happily, and another Zula is smirking at Zuko's punishment) Some sister Zula is...

Uncle Iroh -

Uncle Iroh is Prince Zuko's uncle and companion of Zuko. Iroh is the father figure in Prince Zucko's life. Although he may always seem very serious he has a humorous personality that he occasionally un-folds. Iroh is a former commander of the Fire Nation and sticks with the attitude of his nephew.

FYI:

Appa -

Appa is a huge bison who was left behind like Aang. Appa is Aang's flying bison who will only fly if you say the words, "Yip, yip!". Appa is very strong and powerful creature, it will destroy anything in it's path.

Momo -

Momo is Aang's lemur friend. Momo cannot talk because he is a lemur but Aang can usually react to what he is saying. Momo is pretty much like any other lemur but Momo is very loyal and protecting. It seems that Aang knew a lemur like Momo, one-hundred years ago. This is so because lemurs were common pets of the Air Nomad children in the past.
