You need a hug.

Have you ever looked at a real spell book? Have you ever studied Witchcraft, not as something real, or something you'd be interested in, but as a potential threat to your way of life?
Slainte!

My own perspective is that children should be counseled before they read the books or watch the movies. Parents should instruct them that even though the books are fantasy, there are elements of true witchcraft therein and witchcraft has been condemned numerous times throughout the Bible.
I speak from personal experience when I say that as a teenager and a believer, I was lured into these realms...practicing seances and such....out of sheer ignorance. Later I learned that such things were roundly condemned by God. Children are easily led and have a natural tendency to want to try things new or beyond the realm of the ordinary. Such things hold a natural fascination for young minds.
To compare the Potter books with fairy tales is rather absurb because the lines between good and bad are not distinct. To explain further: God does not distinguish between "white" witchcraft and "black" witchcraft. Evil often parades as something alluring--even Satan masks his true personality...the name Lucifer meaning "light bearer" who was originally a beautiful creature. Now he is worshipped by New Age and Satanists as the one who "brings light or illumination" He is credited with "opening the eyes of mankind to the difference between good and evil." Now one of Satan's tricks is to deceive mankind into thinking there is a difference between white and black magic....and to make sorcery appear fun and exciting.
The writer of the Potter books has studied her subject well and uses many symbols and incantations used in witchcraft---so the reality of evil is present...it is real.
Please abstain from even the appearance of evil as the Bible exhorts.
One passage:
"There shall not be found among you anyone who ...practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you."
Deut. 18:10-14
I like the Harry Potter books, they are engenious FANTASY novels. Plus, to the argument ho we should not surround ourselves with witchcraft and the such, we are to minister to the ends of the earth, as such, they deserve our love b/c they already have God's love. |

| | | | I have once looked in a reall spell book about summoning and first that came to mind was to burn it but the owner that was a friend of my didnt like the idea. It was creepy feeling and i really wouldent say that what happens in HP or LOTR is as bad as the real books of Satan.
