"We've had enough of exhortations to be silent! Cry out with a hundred thousand tongues. I see that the world is rotten because of silence." - Saint Catherine of Siena
Church is not a place to dance. It is a place to worship and to take Jesus in the Eucharist.
Oh I forgot to tell you that Miriam danced in church also.
Ex 15:20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
These are biblical facts that the Bishops can't disagree with.
Not all catholics then follow it. There are charismatic catholic curches here in france where everybody dances, and I know of a nun and a preast who lead dancing as one of the ways to worship God and recieve healing.
The problem with this document, the part that states that litergical ballet dance shouldn't be done in a mass because only one person participates, when in a litergical service all should participate, isn't entirely well thought out. In paintings and icones, there is nothing for the others to do but contemplate. When a choir sings the anthem, there is nothing to do but listen. A litergical dance is just a living dance to be contemplated for purposes of meditation.
Another problem is that the document states that dance in western culture is associated with love, entertainment and profanity. This is somewhat true, yet there is a whole move of modern dance which seeks to deal with more philosophical, moral, and spiritual issues. Dance is just as much associated with this other aspect. At least, here in France, where contemporary dance thrives.

Not really, unfortunately. The nun and preast were somewhere out in the countryside in France, in somesort of center for helping people. But I'll probably be seeing them again sometime in october or november. If you can remind me sometime then, perhaps I'll ask them for contact info.
