I do have some Christian friends that can't stand the show, though. I've also had people change their tone of voice when saying to me "I don't watch that show." I think some people might be taking the show too seriously. When Homer prays to God and says "Thank you God, for nothing!", it's not saying that God shouldn't be thanked, it's poking fun at the shallow spirituality of Homer (and some Christians, too).

O.P., you asked why some Christians are offended- I think Isiah 53 really explained it well for you.
Isaiah53: Well the main problem here is priority. To me Christ holds the highest priority in my life. That is I love Him more then anyone and hold Him in the highest respect possible. While you on the other hand are agnostic and do not place such emphasis upon Him. Let's say it wasnt Jesus being poked at, but whomever or whatever you hold dearest in your life. I dare say you too would be offended, where I may just tell you to lighten up a little.
The fact is Jesus wasn't portrayed as a boy in this scene but as a full grown man sitting on a swing, mumbling, and spinning in circles. I dont know where you come from, but where I am from, grown men do not behave that way; unless they have a mental problem. Whats more 'God' told Homer that He (Jesus) wasnt right after what happened to Him. Either way, in my eyes it was done in very poor taste and was very offensive to me and a major portion of society. Further, the Simpson's spawned other cartoon shows portraying Christianity, Christians and Christ in poor taste (The Family Guy and American Dad come to mind).
Christ is the Lord God. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lord's. Not a mentally or emotionally challenged man-child and to portray Him as such is simply offensive and degrating.

PAX CHRISTI
Wow, that's a new low.
I have just been unhappy with the simpsons in the past few years because of the stupid comments here and there were bugging me...and it's gotten unfunnier and unfunnier since about season 10.
