My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? I see nothing wrong with this game. I have played many Zelda games and there's nothing really wrong. Main character is Link and it's not set on Earth, I don't think, but it's in midevil times with swords and bows and arrows. In all of the games you try to save Zelda, which is a princess of sorts. You go around killing various beasts and bad guys with the sword. No blood at all. I highly recommend it.
If you have any other questions, I should be able to help you. I might have missed some things. |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? I agree, Zelda is a good triumps over evil 1st person game. you build a "Hero" and save the "Princess" at the same time as figuring out riddles that help you accomplish this noble Quest. We let our kids play it. |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? Thanks for the opinions - my concern was in letting him have anything that would steer towards new-ageism or the occult.
I had been warned of "Dungeons and Dragons" by several Christians and that game is similar to Zelda in being a "medieval" type game with bows/arrows/dragons/princess etc etc
I didn't want him to get a game where he has to "cast spells" ... a game with riddles is good cause he loves solving riddles.
He has been playing these games since he was 4 or 5 years old starting with Nintendo, then moving up to SuperNintendo and now Nintendo64 (and GameBoy) - the games he presently has are ...
DonkeyKong64
MarioKart64
SuperMario64
MarioParty
Yoshi's Story
Bomber Man
Superman
Gex64 - Enter the Gexko
StarFox64
His first "Teen" rated game - Jet Force Gemini
His second "Teen" rated game - BattleTanx Global Assault |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? I think its all inthe raising of your child, and it looks like your doing one heck of a job! Being involved and teaching our kids the right and wrong instead of the "Because I said so".
I am a D&D player. I have beed playing if for 25 years. I also play on-line D&D style games like Ultima Online, StarCraft, Diablo, DiabloII, and EverQuest. I take these games for what they are. Games. I dont see any "Satanic" Cult in them, its what you make of it. Are their some who feel that these games are the devil, yes i'm sure there is. People can see Evil in anything. I tend to look to the good.
I guess what Im try'n to say here is, you can see evil in anything, but you can also see good. I try to use Everquest as another tool to reach others that I would never get the chance too. The internet can work both ways, Its how we Christian apply our time and energy in it.
If you can reach out to thousands, maybe even millions of people through the use of VR, then how can that be evil?
JMHO of course

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? Tj - thanks for sharing that ... now I have another question for you. I went to WalMart and looked at the game, I notice that they do cast spells ... are these the kind of "Starlight, starbright - wish I may, wish I might" type spells or what??
The Bible tells us to avoid witches/witchcraft ... so I have some concerns about anything that can be tied to that.
Appreciate your input |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda?? Well, I have played all the Zelda games and they are spells for different things.
Some are potions, some are spells to fight an enemy, some are spells to move around in the maze and some other spells.
Now, I am a big fan of fantasy movies, which have a lot of these things. I don't see a problem with it, depending on the child. Knowing truth from Fantasy is essential. |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda/Casting Spells?? your best bet might be to go to yout local Video store and rent the game. Try it out with your children, after they play it ask them questions about the game, the magic, the good vs evil, and the all around theam of the game. The Zelda my kids played was 1 and 2, of course now my youngest is 19 lol. Your going to be the best filter in your childs life. If you believe your child can handle the VR and knows the difference between fiction and non fiction. Then by all means, let kids be kids. It you feel the VR can be handled at this age. Then by all means intervean.
My parents were conserned for me growing up with Hard Rock music, Dungons and Dragons and other assorted teenages stuff from the mid to late 70's. But My parents talked to me, and knew I could tell the difference between right and wrong, between entertainment and cultisum.
I hope this helps

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda/Casting Spells?? Yes - this does help alot!
Carma we like Fantasy shows/movies, too. We're big Sci-Fi fans, but we limit what we watch to Star Wars, Star Trek, Invisible Man, First Wave type scenarios and other shows that don't appear so X-rated (if you know what I mean).
Joey says a friend of his was telling him about Zelda and says, "It's a great game except in the end when Satan takes over Link." And, Joey says, "WHAT!?!" ... Then his friend says, "Just kidding." :rollin:
I really do appreciate the opinions - it does help - more than you know. |

My Mood | | | Re: Opinions - Zelda/Casting Spells?? Well I like Sci-Fi, but I like the Fatasy movies such as Labyrinth, Legend, The Princess Bride, those type....they have magic, spell casters, witches, etc in them, but they are some of my favorite type movies.
I see the Zelda games along those lines. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
