I think that it is a good and postive trend for country to move more towards pop.

I like Shania myself; she does a lot of upbeat songs. She probably is just as popular for her 'look' as she is her crossover stuff.
I don't like a lot of the older stuff; and many of the albums used to have two good songs and the rest were awful. Now when you buy a record you expect quality--maybe one or two songs you don't like so much.
I think to get away from the 'pop' you have to buy your own music and get the artists you like because on the radio they play mainstream stuff that sells the most, period. Artists jump over the fence to make more money, gain more listeners, and some are probably trying to extend their careers. As they age, they have to compete with young, fresh faces that, again, are hot and may be fast sellers even if it's just for a short few years.

Reps: 445 (power: 0) | | | Well I think lots of songs have "pop" sounds...but if I like the song I'll listen. I'm not a country purist that refuses to listen to anything but traditional country. I like what I like and I listen to what I like. *shrugs*

Reps: 19,021,879 (power: 19,031) | | | I don't care for Faith Hill at all. She doesn't seem "country" at all to me. I like some of Tim McGraw's songs, although not really a huge fan of his recent releases.
I agree 100% that "true country" is Alan Jackson and George Strait. At one point in time I used to like Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, etc. But their last "hits" made me shake my head and cringe.
Probably one reason why I have an AJ CD in my car (or Alabama) and listen to it when I'm on the road. I don't care for main stream country much anymore.
