It never sounds very persuasive (or at least i don't have the courage) to talk about feeling the presence of the holy spirit and having a personal relationship with God. All they seem to want is cold, hard fact, which i cant really give to them.
They say a picture holds 1000 words so: |

God calls us to not be ignorant, but to be knowledgable. The bible informs us not to engage in fruitless discussion and debates that lead to no where. If someone is sincerely seeking, and you don't have answers, then pray for God to show you what the answers are, or at least ask God to tell you what to tell that person where to find an answer.
If you can't hear from God, then that should be your first assignment and your first responsibility as a Christian, for the blind can not lead the blind.
I encourage you to learn all that you can, and to ask the Lord for Wisdom - the greatest tool He can give you by His Spirit with which to reach someone. Rely on Him. Not yourself. |

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | jimi.....the first advice I would give you is the live in the Word....meditate and pray over the Bible and get to know the Scriptures as well as you can. However, there are times in witnessing that the Bible isn't as much use to you because there are those, as you said, who don't hold with it. I would recommend to GREAT, cheap books to you...both written by Lee Strobel. One is called "The Case for Christ" and the other is called "The Case for Faith". These will be a great beginning to equipping you extra-biblically. They can be found at any Christian book stores, at many other stores too.

I think you got the idea, We must learn to walk before we learn to talk, God seems to have his own way of letting us know when we're ready to start talking
Also keep in mind that some of those seeking hard cold evidnce, are not seeking the truth for themselves, but are merely trying to make you question your own faith in God. Sort of like a wolf in sheeps clothing. We must be careful not to let them pull the wool over our eyes.

The above suggestions are absolutely great for studying and applying Christianity, but you might consider an alternative approach as well. In your spare time, try reading books about other religions... Those texts will test your faith, but you will grow stronger in your convictions if you have the courage to do so. As well, that will give you some common ground to discuss matters of theology with people that aren't coming from a Christian background. One note, though: Don't let your time studying other religions interfere with your time that you need to spend reading the bible and praying. Keep your eye on the goal.
Cheers!

If you don't have any doubts, and never have, you probably can't understand the positions of others well enough to have a meaningful dialogue with them. I feel it's a bad idea to get into a serious debate if you can't make the other person's case to his satisfaction.

Because non-believers are just full of self-doubt and anxiety. That's why they are often hurtful and confrontational. (That's my experience, anyways.) The Holy Spirit is true and living inside of you. So don't be too concerned if you can't quite argue your case. That ability comes gradually.
