Hey. My family was a victim of theft a few months ago. I believe that over $1,000 worth of stuff was stolen from their trailor. Someone had pried open a back door that we thought wouldn't open cause it was broken. Needless to say, they have put about four different lock things on it to keep it from opening in the future. Of the things stolen was a Nintendo Gamecube, a portable DVD player, and some other things that I can't recall at this time. Needless to say, my family was devastated. They did report this to the police but unfortunately, the guy we suspect was related to someone in the local government and so the investigation pretty much went nowhere.

I go to school near South Central Los Angeles, and have had my car broken into causing $1400 dolloars worth of damage as well as taking a five hundred dollaar stereo system. Additionally my bike has been stolen, and my apartment was broken into while I was in it. More then the loss of material goods I hate the sense of violation that comes from being a victim of crime. Afterall I've lost possesions to earthquake and fire before, and ultimately you go its just stuff. But to know someone completely disregarded the fact that you had to work hard for your goods and thought that thier desire entitled them to what was yours makes me furious.

Im sorry too but look at it this way you get a practical teaching not to lay up treasures on earth where moth, rust ... destroys. That doesnt mean you are not allowed to have material stuff..
I just re-read my first response to the original post which I wrote in a hurry, and it doesn't sound they way I wanted it to. I have made peace with what has happened to me, and was just relating my experiences in an attempt to emphathize with the poster in the OP. I wasn't trying to upstage the loss they suffered or really looking for support. Although it doesn't come across well, what I was trying to say was " I too have been a victim of theft, and understand how upsetting it an be". For me the property lost was minor compared to the sense of violation I felt. I know there are worse forms of crime, but I was surprised at how violated I felt at first experiencing being a victim of theft.
I think that you should have reported the case to the police. Just be glad that none of your loved ones got hurt, the stuff isn't really important compared to your loved ones. You can buy everything back ,you cannot replace your family. I would like to say that you should take also in aspect that it was only a game cube and not essensial things.
You can check several home burgalery improvement sites and take preventative actions in order to try to prevent a horrible thing like that from ever happening again.
There was a burglary at my parents' house a few months ago; the guy also got in through a back door. He took only one thing: an antique ring that my mom had inherited from my grandmother. He opened drawers and cupboards, left the computers, the sunglasses, CDs, TV, everything, just took that one piece of jewellery. It was really horrible.

We have been victims of theft at two houses, on about 4 or 5 occasions. One theft they used a key to the house! We had just moved into the house, and apparently, someone had taken the key to the lockbox and copied it. We changed all the door locks to the house. Anyway, I certainly know what that kind of violation feels like. We have had a car broken into twice, and another car twice vandalized. It's not a good feeling at all. Sorry to hear of all your losses. We recovered from ours, as far as replacing the missing items, but still, it makes one all the more worried when having to leave the house.
