Pronunciations

I was the assisting minister at my congregation during our services from Thursday through Sunday, and after the Easter Vigil Saturday night, I said to the pastor on the way out, "Well, we finished the triduum" and then I proceeded to ask him to correctly pronounce "triduum". He said "You know, I'm not sure, ask your Episcopalian friends".

So, how do you pronounce it?

And while I'm at it, how do you pronounce "trisagion"?

I'm tempted to treat the "uu" of triduum like the uu of vacuum and say it's pronounced Trad-yoom, but I know better.

I've always heard it pronounced with the "tri" of triple, and each "u" sounding: Trid-YOU-Um. Tried-YOU-Um is also possible, I suppose--with the tri sound as in Trident.

And the other I'm just going to guess on: TRY-Say-jee-yon.

TRY-Seh-jee-yon?

For what that's worth...

I say "TRIDD - you - uhm.

As for trisagion - I will only say "Thank God we never have to sing this word!!"

I say "tree - SAG - ee - on" but I've heard it so many other ways...

The most funny one I have heard: "try - SAGE - un"

I believe these are the official pronounciations...

Triduum = tri-doo-um (short "i" as in "trip")

Trisagion = tree-saw-yun (short "u" as in "up")

Hope that helps!

I pronounce it the same way. Well I've never actually pronounced it, but if I had to...

The other word, heck I didn't even know it was a word until 5 seconds ago!

While we are on pronunciations, I brought this up in OBOB last week and got some funny responses, so I will bring it up here too... how do you pronounce "Philemon." ?
