Naw... there's no such thing as talking too much, especially amongst roadies who have HOURS to fill while covering the miles.

Drop him? ... not here, I operate a toll^free toe line permanently attached to my rock ... er saddle. Anyone can grab on and stay as long as they want as long as things don't get "out of hand" back there.

Had some great rides today with a variety of people which is nice. The tan lines look impressive, lol. I have white feet... dark ankles (no socks in summer, thx)... some faint "knee warmer" thing going on below the knee... then the regular dark cycling shorts mid thigh... and above that a variety of shades ending in white in my nether regions....

In that stage race Roland Green who took the overall GC won the world MTB championships 3 years in a row a few years back when he was with Cannondale. He has since evidently taken up road and rides for KONA now.

Hey ED!

My friend and I had the same thing happen a couple months ago. I was pulling lead into a 65 km/hour headwind when I noticed a womens wallet in the ditch. I stopped pedaling and pulled off the front but my friend clipped my rear wheel and rolled. He wasn't hurt thankfully. The wallet btw is still sitting on my desk... I really should drop that off at the police station downtown tomorrow. The last time I found a wallet however I had to fill out a bunch of paper work etc... perhaps there is just a "lost and found" box I could use.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll meet up with a bunch of triathletes at 7am for a 3 hour ride... should be fun if the weather's good.

fallen^sparrow

ps: bonking isn't much fun... but it is interesting to see your limits.

Ed, praise God that you're OK and didn't go down and get injured! How fast were 'ya going? I bet that got your heart racing for awhile .... I think that's one of the reasons I frequently hang off the back, people just doing weird things or indicating too late or not at all for obstacles ... plus I like to look at something other than someones wheel or their buttox the whole time lol.

No socks? no socks with closed shoes? Is that how you got your handle? After taking them stinkies off, did sparrows start falling? (OK, I admit, that was corny, but that's why I'm an engineer, so when I dish out some corn, I dish out the who cob ...ok, I'll really stop now)

Good deal mean, I bet the new customer enjoyed being able to ride his new rig with some of the crew from the bike shop. That kinda says "hey, we care about the customer and our passion is cycling, and not just your money".

Good deal on the rides too. I fortunately got to take advantage of our nice weather w/2 rode rides (~40 miles Thursday & Friday ... loved the SPD sandals on Friday too) and a nice mtn bike ride on Saturday. Now we're looking at cloudy & showers through the middle of next week But make sure to keep working on them goofy tan lines, cyclists, especially road cyclists, got some of the best tan lines around haha. Maybe we shoudl have a contest of who can get the worst tan lines by the end of the season, as long as Ed can stay away from the strawberries

7 am ride .... better you than me ... I'm definitely no morning person. Hope the ride when well, and I hope your riding has been uneventful (other than maybe winning) there Ed!

cheers.. yesterdays 30miles(ish) was almost uneventful apart from the first half mile where i realised my front tyre (which i'd just pumped up) wasn't fully seated on the rim and had a bulge. so i nipped home again to swap it for a spare wheel..... that and the 7miles down a rather major road.

i also go sockless when its warm enough for all my short blasts, and will start doing it for longer rides as my longer triathlon races approach in a few months time.

sprint tri in london on sunday with a traffic free 9lap course for the bike which should be fun.

Hello fellow cyclists. I am by far a beginner the last bike I had was bought when
I was 12. Now 10 years later I just bought a new bike. A simple bike from Costco, but it seems to be a pretty decent bike for a newby. My husband is wrenching on it as we speak. We need to loose our "love fat" hehe. A couple of newlweds are going to attempt to loose our recent weight gain and hopeful make excercising a normal event in our lives. So we want to start with cycling. My husband has been talking about it for days, but it all became real when we renting some bikes in Monterey. So tonight will be ride one of many.

Ed, I'm assuming by your tire issue that you're running tubulars, huh? Glad that your ride was fairly uneventful ... but the 7 miles on the major road wasn't the best? 7 out of 30 miles is fairly significant. Another sockless one how do you prevent problems with blisters?

Traffic free .... nice ... can't beat that setup!

andriamay1 ... welcome, and it's nice to hear that you're getting back into cycling. Hopefully it'll be a lifelong love for you and your husband, and a great way to stay in shape too!

I haven't ridden since Saturday ... ahhhhhh ... I'm riding tomorrow, and I'm taking the long way to youth group. I don't care how hard it rains or if it rains on me the entire way ... I'm hitting the road That reminds me of when I first put full fenders on the Centurion. I was going to youth group and got hit with a DOWNPOUR about a mile from church. Well, I pull in and say to, well I forget who, but I say "Man, I just put these fenders on to keep me dry, and I'm SOAKING wet. They didn't work" .... the funny part, was the person didn't get it at all. Right over his head.

Oh yeah ... Friday night I bagged me a free large fries from McDonalds when I pulled up to the drive through window on my bike at 10:15 pm ... a pleasant surprise!

Take care y'all
Dan

it was a clincher t(y/i)re actually, i run foldable ones on my training wheels as they're a bit more compliant when it comes to getting them on & off if i get a puncture. however this also means they don't sit on the rim so well when not at full pressure, i usually check, i didn't.. oh well.

i'm quite lucky, i have robust feet i guess! i've done alot of seriously long distance running without so much as a blister which amazes most of my fellow runners.

traffic free is good i'm just a bit worried about drafting.... they're starting people at 30second intervals in the pool.. so assuming everyone gets onto the bike course at 30second intervals.. and assuming everyone takes 40minutes (rounding up!) to do the course that would be 80riders on the course at any point.. ..... hang on i need to do some maths.

80people on a 2.2km lap.....thats 2.8 metres a bike !!!

haha.... and we're supposed to leave a 10metre draft zone .. this should be fun!

PS welcome also andriamay.. enjoy your riding.

Just spotted this thread - I do enjoy cross country riding but shamefully haven't been on a decent ride in a year and a half (when I severely bruised a rib falling over the handlebars down a 45 degree descent ). My weapon of choice is a 2003 Fuji Sunfire with upgraded Shimano Deore cranks (the stock ones were duds and had to be replaced), rims and more aggressive WTB tyres:

aha i just found the flaw(s) in my calculation..... there would be 60-80 riders on the course at any point in time (assuming 30-40minutes to complete the distance)... and i was a factor of 10 out with the distance... so no problems there, although if you're quick you're going to be continually overtaking!

oh well.

After our first ride we have decided, well my husband has decided to return my bike and get a better one. So he's going to return it tonight and he already has in mind the one he wants to get me. So we will see. He's thinking about getting a Giant..whatever that is and its about 250-300 the one we bought was 150 from costco. They had a nice one for 300, but it was way too big for me!
