You have to select Calvinist as your "church, denomination or faith" in the User CP (under "Edit Your Details").

"Here is found the most fundamental difference between liberalism and Christianity—liberalism is altogether in the imperative mood, while Christianity begins with a triumphant indicative; liberalism appeals to man's will, while Christianity announces, first, a gracious act of God." —J. Gresham Machen
"Christianity is the sine qua non of the intelligibility of anything." —Cornelius Van Til
I was saved in 1992 in a small, rural Baptist church. The pastor there always had bad things to say about Calvinism, so not knowing any better I accepted what he had to say................
Finally, I took the plunge and accepted with my heart what my head had already understood: that salvation is indeed of the Lord.
The Lord showed me in His Word He was Sovereign from the beginning.
I just knew God was God, and He was Jehovah, God Almighty!
He sought me, while I was running the other way, and bought me, with His redeeming blood.
Then shortly after He saved me, I found out I was being called a "Calvinist".
I had no idea what that was, until, the Lord led me to a Bible Study that was teaching Romans.
As we began to study, I kept saying, " Wow!, that's what happened to me".
So, I have never believed anything else.
I didn't know it had a name until the study. I had just considered myself a Christian Believer in those weeks before.
I began getting "The Sword and Trowel" papers, going to Sovereign Grace Conferences, listening to John Reisinger and Henry Mahan and reading everything reformed, I could get my hands on.
Even though they were Baptist and we leaned toward the Presbyterian form of church government....
I was excitedly teaching the doctrines to our 2 eager boys. AW Pink blessed our socks off, and so did J.I. Packer.
We are members and go to a Presbyterian Church.
It's a blessing that they also teach the sovereign grace of God in our fellowship.
This September I will have known the blessed love of Christ Jesus in my life for 36 years.
He loved me from before the foundation of the earth, but I didn't know that, until after He opened my heart to His precious gospel in 1973!
His Sovereingty affects my entire life and how I speak of Him and His work.
All praise to Him and Him alone! For He is King!!!
It began when a tiny seed was planted in my heart by Dr. R. C. Sproul when I read "Chosen by God".
Then I turned to my Bible and I saw it on every page.
At first there was a measure of pride... a certain nearly gnostic pleasure in being unique, different...better?
But under it all was the sure awareness that I was a sinner and that, in the words of Art Azurdia, "When God got me, He didn't get anything good."
I am Presbyterian by conviction, covenantal in theology, broken and needing a Savior every day, generally non-argumentative and desirous of correction and humbling every day at the hand of my Master.

Welcome to the SR room

How did I become a Calvinist? Well, I became a Calvinist because I read the Bible, of course!
No, really, I read Torah about 6 times, noticed how it never once spoke of a good unbeliever, noticed how the LORD elected His people Israel, and only after coming to doctrines identical to Calvinism did I look into which denomination to join. At school I always heard good things of John Calvin (the textbooks like him for some reason) so I always thought good things about him myself, so I started there with my search.
So, when I looked into Calvinism, and I found out he believed exactly what I believed, I was overjoyed. Looking into it further, I ran into a youtube channel called RedBeetle, and his video on supralapsarianism vs infralapsarianism, and because it was so intricate in its doctrine, I knew the Calvinists were right.
I learned about the Doctrines of Grace right here on CF.
The seed had been planted, and now by going back and studying the Scriptures with the doctrines in my heart...it all makes perfect sense...from Genesis to the Revelation!!!!
thanks for listening.

one day I happened to come across Romans 9 (6th grade I think), and I was like 'crap! the people who believe in predestination have some serious Scriptural support'
one thing that I thought was weird, was I found that I was quoting TULIP before I'd even heard the phrase 'calvinist'. I was talking with some classmates about predestination and how it only made sense, and my argument (i later found out) was just the 5 points of TULIP.

I became a "calvinist" because the Doctrines of Grace are biblical and embody what the scriptures entail.
No more no less.
The "system" as it is called is correct and right.
It took me over a year to come to this conclusion....LImited Atonement being my big hurdle(like a lot of others apparently lol!).
It's just what the bible teaches regarding Grace, Justification, Regeneration, and overall Redemption. It teaches the Sovereignty of our Lord God....that's the biggest thing IMHO that sticks with my soul.
Man is nothing...God is EVERYTHING!
No other system of theology in Christianity puts it so simply.
Thanks for listening.
