Sorry, I'm too elated not to post this, and I figured this is as good a thread as any!
I'm a new Dad!! Little 6 lb. 3 oz. girl born on Monday (Dec 6th). We're all doing well and she'll be coming home today!
Just dropping in for a quick (ice cream) sandwich while running between the hospital and home! So I gotta go - normally chocolate cigars are in order, but maybe one of you can come up with a cool ice cream treat to hand out for the next day or so!!

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

What a lovely spot to hang my hat. Hi y'all. Mind if I pull up a chair? Looks like my kind of crowd... except for the crazy klingon and the hippie commune guy ( hey you two).
CaDan, have I know that I have already said it, but I love your Romero stuff... just noticed the "Prophets of a World Not Our Own".... I think that is one of the most wonderful prayers I have ever read. I use it all the time.
Anyway, see y'all later.
... oh, and congratulations to the new father... that is wonderfully exciting news.

Right now, I need a nice chocolate ice cream, and someone to scoop it up for me, and sit down with me for a while across the table or counter. A friendly face and a dish of ice cream.

It helps, now and then, to step back
and take a long view.
The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts,
it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction
of the magnificent enterprise that is God's work.
Nothing we do is complete, which is a way of saying
that the kingdom always lies beyond us.
No statement says all that could be said.
No prayer fully expresses our faith.
No confession brings perfection.
No pastoral visit brings wholeness.
No program accomplishes the church's mission.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything.
This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted,
knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation
in realizing that. This enables us to do something,
and to do it very well. It may be incomplete,
but it is a beginning, a step along the way,
an opportunity for the Lord's grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference
between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
Amen.
