What Would You Do?

One of the most important things I've been learning over the last two months is this concept of finding out what it is that I truly want in life.

It sounds strange comming from a Christian who's devoted his entire life to God's direction, but it's something I'm just learning now is is fundamentally important to discerning God's will!

When you've given up your dreams, your desires, your whole life to God, and trust Him for it - he will give back to you His desires, His dreams, His visions, His plans and purposes, and the key to finding them out is really simple - as simple as finding out what it is "you really want to do!" In short, the question is better phrased: "if money were no object, and time were no limitation or concern, and circumstance was never an impossibility; what would you want to do? If you could go anywhere, do anything, and money was not a problem, - what would you desire to do?"

And often times, people aren't ready to have that question asked of them because they have not yet given their entire lives to God, so therefore they answer quite secularly (like, never work, travel the world, own a lot of things, etc.). But in short, the nature of the desires that God gives us, is for building His Kingdom. So what would your desire be? What is it that we desire that God could use to build up his kingdom?

And to tie that in, I've found out something else VERY important too. We young, ambitious singles have this tenacious desire to seek God out for our future mate, in everything we do. LOL. So many times, honest Christians will repeat that back as their answer: "I want to get married," or "Be a wife, a helpmate..." It's true. When we're on the "seeking path" we look and wonder, and often times get ourselves into emotional trouble if we take a particular relationship beyond what God intended it to be. This is why I've thought about adding this strategic dimension into the question in which I myself am just now beginning to answer:

"If time, money, and circumstance were no limitation nor object, and if you could go anywhere and do anything in the world, and if God guaranteed you would met your future mate anyways - no matter what you find yourself doing, what would you do?"

I ask this of you. What would you do?

I would travel to the darkest places and minister to those trapped in that darkness. (spiritual darkness...lest anyone think I would go where the sun don't shine! I do need the sun!)

I would go to a christian college and get a degree in counseling.

I would focus on helping people with addictions or people that have been abused. I would offer my counseling for free. I would love to help young people or familes that are struggling with addictions or the scars brought upon by abuse.

I would also open up a soup kitchen and a shelter where homeless people could have a place to stay and hear the gospel and get counseling.

(I wish I really could do these things)

I would pray and have always prayed that God would give me some sort of musical talent. I want to play & write music and travel the world praising the glory of God for young people. I think a lot of young people today are lost. They don't truly know who God is. They have some sort of image or vision of what God is like, but they don't truly know who God really is.

Two things.

1) Go to graduate school and earn my master's in theater and a master's in religion. The second would have to be done at Drew University.

2) Travel to all the places my grandparents went to in their life together. They were really travelling people! They have been all over the place and brought back such great stories. So I think it'd be neat to see the same places they did and stay in the same places.

I ask this of you. What would you do?
You know Josephus? It's funny that you asked that question because as of late, I have been truly struggling with that question. You stated that those who haven't given their entire lives to God would give a secular answer. I do agree with you on that. I am in my twenties and in full-time ministry working with hard core inner-city youth; when I tell most people what I do they think "wow! you're a true herione!" But the thing is, I am nowhere near! I know that this is where God has placed me at this moment in my life, however I have seriously been thinking about my core values and where I want to be in my life. Now I know that sounds selfish because I fully acknowledge that God truly is using me for building His Kingdom at this present time and He has given me that desire. As much as I want to minister to people and further build his Kingdom, I also have this desire for something completely opposite to what I am doing at this moment. Something that is not in a "ministry" type of setting, however an area in which I know the Lord could use me in a mighty way as well. And so I guess to reiterate your question,

"If time, money, and circumstance were no limitation nor object, and if you could do anything in the world, and if God guaranteed you would meet your future mate anyways - no matter what you find yourself doing, what would you do?"

Well Josephus, I would go to grad school and work towards a master's degree in english literature. Thereafter, my ultimate dream would be to work towards a Ph.d in literature so I can teach at a university level. Quite the opposite from what I am currently doing now, huh? Now how am I going to help further build the Kingdom of heaven, you ask? Well college students today are inundated with so many schools of thought, most of which are humanistic and self-gratifying. I do believe that college students are the future leaders of our country and the college campus would be an amazing and challenging ministry setting. And of course, I am always up for a challenge!

I am complex; at times I am a contradiction. Occasionally I am a cacophony of emotions, and more frequently I am content, and, yes, even confident as a tender counterpart.

These feminine nuances make me(us) mysterious (even to ourselves) as well as mainstays to those travelling along life's highway and looking for a place to pull off.

I would open my own Christian preschool, with the fees all based on need. I would invite kids from impoverished or needy families to come and have fun for a few hours, learning about the beautiful world gave us.

I would name it "Such Is The Kingdom of Heaven".

Three places I would like to go is Jerusalem, Beijing, & Egypt. I would like to visit some of the places we read about in our Bible, and I would like like to go to China to do missionary work. Also, perhaps I would like to go back to the Philippines again. Another place I have considered to go to do missionary type work is Pakastan and Afganstan.
