God's word...follow all or just some of it?

I know we're supposed to follow all of God's word, but I'm confused how literally we're supposed to follow everything since Biblical days are so different from today.

Like Leviticus 15 for example.

And Leviticus 19:19 says "and do not put on a garment woven with two different kinds of thread."

Why don't we heed these things today? Am I just not far enough in the Bible yet, and these words were changed?

Leviticus is difficult. The intent behind the Law has relevance for today. I recommend chewing on Leviticus a little later on.

You'll find your answer to that one in Acts 15. The first Christians wrestled with this, since they were all Jews and Gentiles were coming to the Lord as well. They met together, the Spirit was with them, and led them to declare our freedom from laws like that.

Since this is recorded in Scripture, we can go with stuff like this. Some people might try to do this on their own, and they could be coming from way out of left field.

Christians are under the New Covenant, not the Old. The problem many people have today is they are trying to synthesize the Old Testament and New Testament. The Apostles have already done so. They've already determined which 'laws' of the Old Testament continue under the New Covenant, so we can find all that we need in the New Testament. Some laws have indirectly been carried through, for example, the New Testament doesn't specifically say 'Thou Shall Not Steal' but we are told to be Christlike. Would Christ steal? Nawh. First, discover what covenant your are under, then stick to the terms of your Covenant. The Old Testament is not to be disregarded at all, it is very useful for historical purposes and also for typologies which give us beautiful imagery and forshadowing, all which point towards Christ.

We all have to interpret the Bible. It was not even written in our language for a start!
Many of the laws in Leviticus and over old Testament books were culturally specific to the poeple of Israel. They fit with an ancient theocratic (God ruled) culture. A big clue is that New testament writers specifically over turned a lot of the ceremonial laws that are culturally specific.
These include:
* Cleanliness and purity laws (Jesus said it is what comes form within that makes one unclean)
* Dietry laws (food) (Peters Vision of the blanket)
* Circumcision (Galatiains: We live by grace not by law)
* Temple sacrifices (Hebrews: Jesus sacrifice was for once and for all)

The two commands you need to stick by are these:

Isn't it something that today, some animals face extinction...but back when they were making sacrifices for their sins, there were plenty of animals to go around! LOL

Well in dealing with endagered species and how to handle the environment and stuff like that, I always remeber the verse (I forget which one) in Genesis which declares humans the stewards (caretakers) of the earth.
