I know it's not objective morality, but he's arguing for it still. I don't want this thread to turn into a debate. I just want some author recommendations.

Hmm. The book does look like it's more on the popular level. And from looking at the table of contents it looks like a lot of rehash of what has been said before. It does look like he is arguing for objective morality though, at least in the sense that truth is good and religion is evil. Thanks...

It needn't have anything to do with morality or even the Golden Rule that you see behind that law. If you were a dictator looking to maximize the power of your state, would you want your community killing itself?

I don't think there is actually a justification of free will in the strict philosophical sense. The concept seems to me to have been created in theological circles to justify punishment (i.e. temporary and eternal punishment). In a more pragmatic sense, though, we all believe in free will...

Well, it would be nice if everybody were to admit that the law exists for one purpose: to advance the cause of the state. A separation of Morality and State of sorts.
