    Orthodoxy's view on Genesis 1

Hi, there are a variety of views within Orthodoxy. While it's possible to be a literal six day young earth creationist, the last time I asked my bishop (in the OCA), he affirmed that this is not at all the required view within Orthodoxy, but rather that we can or even ought to read the first...

St. Euphrosynos Taverna and Ouzeri (another one!)

Today was a good day -- went to 6:30 am liturgy, then afterward sung in the choir for liturgy with the metropolitan. A doubleheader! I think the last time I ran into the metropolitan it was still Met Jonah. Have another pontifical liturgy this weekend. A lot of diagonality recently.

Metropolitan Kallistos, David Bentley Hart, Universalism, and the Church of the East

Is that *known* or *asserted*? Yes, good memory, and he was quite correct about it: people asserting that the above is "known" typically don't have the Hebrew chops to back up their assertion. I will just note that while we don't like Protestant exegesis, they have little trouble finding a...

Opinions on the Corrective Baptism issue?

What Are You Required to Believe to Become Orthodox?

I am not a priest and have no pastoral responsibility, but it would probably be safe to say it's a pastoral decision after undergoing catechism that covers all the important stuff, that beyond believing the basics they desire to believe as the Church does in our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

What Are You Required to Believe to Become Orthodox?

We certainly don't, like, go for a minimal approach here, and even if one did, it must be taken with the attitude, "I believe, O Lord, help my unbelief!" -- to submit to the fullness of the teaching of the Church. This is, roughly, true for us as well.

Can someone briefly explain what's going on in Orthodoxy?

"Metropolitan Jonah Paffhausen, a retired bishop of ROCOR and rector of St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Stafford, Virginia, who was forced to resign from the Orthodox Church in America in part for comments seen as incendiary..." Protecting a priest who raped somebody is not "comments...

Opinions on the Corrective Baptism issue?

Though I mean if it's retaliation for the very reverend archpriest Peter Heers' positions on COVID, would that be wrong? Since the hierarchs were right? EDIT though certainly I admit it seems that it's irregularly done -- ultimately, we have no real insight into what exactly happened here and...

Can someone briefly explain what's going on in Orthodoxy?

One can also consider whether people abandon churches because of the conflation of their mission with the death cult of American conservatism -- temptations on both ends, and I've certainly seen victims of both.
